I only use I-4 if I absolutely have to. I dread picking up or dropping off friends/family at MCO!
When coming home from the east, like 95, we use 417. The problem is where it dumps you off its 3 major highways feeding into and including I-4. Then stop and go for another 5ish miles.
So, I guess that's my answer.... I avoid 4 a's much as possible!
We haven't used I 4 for approx. 7 years now. We took PaHunters' suggestion and now stay on I 95 to exit 212 , 407 this comes into 528 then got off at 417 South which brings me to I 4 one exit from World Drive.
Yes there are some tolls ( 4 or 5 exact count eludes me ) but both EZ PASS and Sun Pass are accepted
I used the eastbound express lanes when leaving the week before Easter. Didn't even know they were open and was one of maybe 2-3 cars using the lanes.
It was like heaven compared to the usual mess from previous years. I came across on 528 to 417 on arrival as I was coming from Cape Canaveral. That was more crowded but not slowed or stopped and of course I used EZ Pass and SunPass.
The express lanes are open and a lot of the construction has gone away. If you don't mind paying, I highly recommend the express lanes. Be aware that when you get off of them, they merge into the left most lane which can be tricky if you need to exit right away. It's also tricky because people are going so fast in the left lane.
All of us from Ontario, Canada consider this normal traffic through Toronto. Not sure why they think I-4 is terrible lol. A couple of bleeps in the video where you might hear the odd *(^.
