I read on another thread that I-4 is bad around he Orlando area. Was just wondering were and if they are working weekends?

They are doing a lot of work east of Orlando as far as I know, but I havent been on 1-4 since November. It's not so much that they have lanes temporarily closed due to work it's pretty much a work in progress as far as I can tell so they have lanes closed down with all those orange cans everywhere. They were having an increase in accidents around there so they lowered the speedlimit. Weekends dont seem too bad to me on i-4 especially Sundays and weekdays between like 10 and 2 Usually not too bad. Of course around the Disney area it gets pretty congested all the time. Maybe someone else can give you some more updated info than I am able too. Good luck in your travels.

They have just begun the I-4 expansion project. It should take about six years to complete. During that time, you can expect construction seven days a week.

We just came from there a couple weeks ago and most of I-4 from East to Disney is finished. There is a portion closer to I-95 that they are still working on - much, much better than our last trip there two years ago. There may be some finishing up work along the way, but we didn't notice, and it didn't impact our driving.

Now, if only I-95 were as nice!! :upsidedow

The expansion project has just begun. Give it a bit. You will see a lot of construction.

Are you saying they are going to expand the lanes on east side again, after just putting the finishing touches on the recent expansion?? Would be highly unusual - looks like they've finished with that part, to me!!

Expansion, really? I can see redoing the road, but expanding, it is already 5 wide.

The I-4 Ultimate project started at the beginning of the year. The project will add express lanes, remove and change some on/off ramps, and raise up a bunch of bridges. Construction is expected to last until 2021. The end goal is to hopefully help ease some of the constant congestion downtown.

My husband has been working on some of the engineering aspects of the project. It will be the death of him I'm sure!

When the expansion project is finished, it will have toll lanes in addition to the current lanes. They will be in between the regular lanes going east and west. The toll amount will vary based on traffic volume. I saw,a rendering of the final outcome. I will try to find it again and post it.

Toll road, ugg. It is amazing how Florida has no problem, putting up toll roads. In Wisconsin, we are told they are way to expensive.
