Im back from 4 days in Orlando where I had another AMAZING time (and my third stay at the Universal Orlando Resort this year.)
Days: June 1-4th, 2006
Cast: Anthony (Me), Luis, Maria, & Quinisha
Resort: Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando
Day 1 - Animal Kingdom/Epcot/MGM Studios
Day 2 - SeaWorld
Day 3 - Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure
Day 4 - Islands of Adventure
Ill just do a rundown of some highlights/lowlights of my trip. Mostly highlights!!!!
Animal Kingdom
Expedition: Everest
This was my first time riding Everest and I had heard a lot of mixed opinions so I knew to keep my expectations low. The ride got off to a good start and the climb up the mountain seemed promising but overall I have to say the ride was a big disappointment. I mean, if theres one thing Disney should know how to do by now is build a coaster around a mountain. But there seemed to be absolutely no airtime, no steep drops, no real tight turns whoever compared it to Big Thunder Mountain was pretty much right. However, the Yeti is great (although far far far from the most advanced animatronic ever created), the projection with the Yeti was a great scene, and the backwards portion in the dark is amazing. I liked my second ride on it better (I was more towards the back of the train) and will definitely ride it again. But it still pains me that it cost $100 million. We all like the $40 million Revenge of the Mummy better. Imagine what it would have been like with $100 million
At Animal Kingdom, we also took a look at:
Primeval Whirl
Dinosaur
Kilimanjaro Safari
Legend of the Lion King
Its Tough To Be A Bug 4D
We left Animal Kingdom at about 2:00 p.m. and headed to Planet Hollywood in Downtown Disney. It wasnt my first choice or second or third choice but I do love my CapNCrunch Chicken Fingers.
We got to Epcot at around 4... Soarin had over a 120 minute wait (I wouldnt wait more than 30 for it honestly ) and all FastPasses had been distributed. Test Track had less wait but also no FastPasses. Im thinking now that when I go to Disney again and do a few parks in one day, I should hit Epcot first. I usually do but Everest was top priority but I dont think the waits for it get anywhere near as long as Soarin or Test Track.
At Epcot, we did:
Test Track
Mission: Space
Spaceship Earth (an opportunity for some of us to take a nap, some of us to text message our friends back home, and 1 of us to take in one of his favorite attractions not me)
We left Epcot and headed to the Hard Rock. When checking into Universal hotels, I usually do it early on the morning and the head to the parks. This time, however, I called at around 11:00a.m. to notify them of my late check-in (I believe it was 6:30 at this time) and then called again to confirm at around 2:00. Its not really necessary but just in case.
Ive visited the hotel before but never actually stayed there. I have stayed Club Level at Portofino Bay and plenty of times at the Royal Pacific Resort as well (Im thinking at least at least 10 times by now )
I usually find the Hard Rock to be more expensive and harder to book at a discounted rate. But I booked a few months ago and got a pool view for one night at $219 with the APH rate and the other 2 nights at $239. I also added a special request on the reservation for theme park view, if there was any.
I checked in, gave the girls the room keys and told them to go ahead up to the room while I would park the car. There was absolutely no parking (and it seemed to be like there was less parking than the Royal Pacific). And its funny because when I first got to the hotel, the guy asked me if I would be self-parking or valet. And I was like I dont mind self-parking. Is it easy to find parking? He said Well sometimes. You just have to look for it. And I was like.. I will park right in front in the grass if I have to. So I drove up and figured Id just valet but I told the guy I had chosen to self-park but I could not find any parking. The guy told me hed just valet for the price of self-parking. Thats nice, right? Saved $7.
Anyway, I get a call from the girls telling me theres only 1 King bed in the room. Theres 4 of us 1 King bed. Its not gonna happen.
So I went back to the front desk to have it sorted out. My reservation was for 2 Queen Beds Pool View. When I try to switch it, the girl at the front desk tells me that theres no other Pool View rooms and that they only have a Garden View. But what she can do is refund me back the extra money I paid for Pool View. I was like that SUCKS. I booked a long time ago specifically for Pool View because I didnt want a view of another building or the parking lot or some big ol trees. I even said Id be willing to pay for a deluxe room or a club room with a view. And if it helped, Im a LoewsFirst Gold member. She was on the phone with the manager and the manager said if I took the Garden View, they would knock $40 off each night and they also threw in free vouchers for the breakfast buffet at The Kitchen (a $65 value), and CityWalk Party Passes for the 4 of us (a $40 value).
I was still disappointed with the view but I kinda made out like a bandit, didnt I?
