So 30 days out I was able to get a 7dmt FP at 7pm in MK. We’ve been on it before. But I realize now I won’t be able to get any more FP besides the original 3 I booked. Seems like a bit of a waste... wondering if I should just drop it and book a bunch from 10am to 1pm do we can possibly get more after, but risk not being able to do the big headliner...I understand it is personal preference. But we haven’t really been to the parks since these new FP rules came into being. How do you plan your touring?

All the parks are set up this way, especially with the tiering. I wonder if i’m going about it all wrong...maybe the better way is to get FastPasses early and wait for the one long headliner... thoughts? Thanks!

I would drop the 7DMT. Go at rope drop (be there EARLY!) and make a beeline for 7DMT. Half of the park will also have this idea, but if you are near the front of the pack, you’ll have very little wait. Plan your FPs from 10-1. Especially at MK, you can get just about every ride (even occasionally 7DMT) as an additional FP.

Keep trying to modify it. 7DMT is a tough one to change, but check every day and see if you get lucky.

Is the ride important to you? I'd rather have a FP for a ride with normal 90 minute waits and wait 30 minutes for 3 other rides if that makes sense...

I guess it sort of depends on your touring style. We had a couple days where we went for extra FPs but we found that with our touring style (EMH every day, one park at rope drop, afternoon break, closing a different park--there for a week) we really didn't need more than three a day. We pretty much did everything and didn't wait more than 15 minutes for more than three or four attractions (and two of those were our FOP FPs), never as long as 30 minutes. If you really want to do the ride I would keep it.

Thanks for your insight! There are 10 of us in the party so finding FPs is a bit challenging for the hard to get ones. I like the rope drop idea but unfortunately we have some late risers in our party... I may have to convince them to get up early another day. I already told them it was impossible to ride FOP otherwise!

How important is the ride? Have you been on it before? If we hadn’t gotten FPs and couldn’t RD, we probably would’ve skipped it. I had ridden it, but no one else in my family had. My kids ended up preferring BTM over that, and Space Mountain over all.

I would try to modify it to earlier, and also watch for a prepark opening at Be Our Guest. My teens didn’t enjoy getting up early every day, but they did. Usually by 6:30.

Since your party is large, have you tried to split into two groups of five (or 4/6, etc.) and see if you can get close times or overlapping windows for 7DMT earlier in the day? That might be an option as well. Even if you end up with windows right after each other, say 11-12 and 12-1, as soon as the second bunch tap in, the earlier riders can start looking for that 4th FP for the whole group (so long as 7DMT is your third one). Not a perfect solution, but a workable one.

To increase your chances at getting an earlier time I would break your party into two. If you get a better time for one and no the other group you can decide what to do about it then. I would definitely keep trying for earlier times. If you don’t get them I would RD it if you want to do the ride. There are a lot of good rides (HM, PoTC, etc) that you can get in the afternoon if you plan to do it that way. The other thing we do is most of our character meets in the afternoon or shows that don’t need FP to fill in the time (or have pool time if you’re on-site) and keep the late FP. Depending on how late MK is open, you could get more FPs after going on 7DMT. Personally I would RD it if I couldn’t get it earlier since even if you aren’t at the front of the RD pack, I would rather wait 45 minutes for 1 ride than 30-60 for all afternoon rides (again assuming you don’t want to do a rest or shows).
