I’m stuck on Carousel of Progress

We love carousel of progress but that last scene is the worst! I would hate to see that one over and over.

@Micca it's always been an attraction that I wanted to ride and I am so glad that I have. I'm not entirely sure I want it updated as you say, Walt himself had a hand in it so maybe it is something that could be preserved for posterity.

Thank you for the welcome, I only came across the Dis Unplugged podcast by accident last week and I have been religiously watching all their content on youtube and finally decided to get myself on to the boards to connect with fellow Disney lovers and enthusiasts.

Love CoP but once through each scene is sufficient. I don't understand how the emergency exits can't be used??? For the poor guy having a panic attack this is the very definition of an emergency. Not to make too big a thing of it, but not allowing the emergency exit sounds like it could present a huge problem.

I agree with this. I have a son with severe anxiety and he just had his first full blown panic attack last week. I have had panic attacks too, so I know what it feels like, but this happened in a doctor's office while he was undergoing allergy testing, so we all thought it was anaphalaxis! It was so scary for him...he turned red and flushed and broke out into a full body sweat and was hyperventilating. He is only 13 and autistic and it was hard to explain to him what was happening and help him get through it. He had to lay down for quite a long time to get through it.

If this happened to us at WDW, I would have used the emergency exit anyway and let the Disney management deal with me after the fact. And, if they even TRIED to tell me that we had done something wrong, I would have promptly called a lawyer. That is unacceptable.

Those emergency exit doors lead to the outside and are perfectly safe to use at ANYTIME during the show. That is why they say "if you need to leave the theater during the show, please alert a cast member."

I really hope the family of that gentleman went to guest services after that and complained. That could have totally ruined his entire day.

Oh my! We rode it last week. It’s a favorite of ours. I thought it might be a cool place to get out of the sun. The day we were there it was rather warm; not the respite I was hoping for. It did cross my mind “what if we got stuck in here?”and I had a mini panic attack of my own. I convinced myself it was so unlikely and probably never happens. That poor guy!!

Glad to have you with us Chris! You'll find we are like-minded folks here. Opinions vary but we all love Disney. :earsboy:

I've noted this before, but I was 5 years old and saw it in 1964. I can't even express how mesmerizing this was at the time. People were left speechless. It's a classic alright! ...and I guess that makes me a classic too! Sobbing!:sad::sad:

Just walk out the back at the exit. We did it when my daughter when she had bathroom emergency. Shut down the entire ride and 2 CMs just let us go.

I got stuck on it two years ago. It was a riot. People were singing the song and reciting the lines and then they turned down the volume and they still did it. Hilarious!

I think if they would update the carpeting and chairs in there it would help a lot. Smells so musty in there

Perfect example of why I say to posters that just because your young children are permitted by Disney rules to ride without a parent doesn't mean you should let them.

Rides are breaking down more frequently than ever for more than a couple of minutes and parents should be with their children no matter the ride.

Respectfully disagree. Depends on the child. My kids have been riding alone for years and this would not phase them a bit. My daughter thought the coolest thing ever was being walked off FEA and seeing it from that perspective. She couldn't wait to tell me about it.

I suspect this would be why they were not letting the panic attack person exit, it was likely more of a general "do not exit" and not a shutting down of an emergency exit. Because every time somebody gets up to leave, it shuts it down and that is why you end up seeing the same scene multiple times and the longer that goes on, the more people get up and leave and the more it shuts down and scenes repeat, it's a vicious cycle.

There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Shining when you exit CoP!
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
And the exit's just a dream away!

Man has a dream and that's the start
He wants to get out, with all his heart
And when exiting becomes reality
It's a dream come true for you and me!

So there's a great big beautiful tomorrow
Now that your out of CoP
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow
So enjoy your evening in EP!

LOL! :)
You should be writing for Disney!!!

I hadn't been on/seen Carousel in years ( always skipped it) until February 14 of last year.
I was like wow it's Valentines Day and there is a Valentine Day scene (HA!) .....and then it got stuck on the last scene 3x!
Watching the oven overheat/ fumes and then hearing that song over & over.....
I feel your pain:headache:

Exactly, WDW is the perfect place for kids who want to exercise some independence to do so. Obviously each child is different so if they're naturally anxious maybe it's not a great idea to let them. But it's not anything that will cause them harm either. My son got stuck on Splash Mountain and was chatting with the other guys on the ride (there were only 3 of them, during a Halloween party). I was kinda curious why it was taking so long but it was also really nice to get off my feet, relax, and have a few minutes to myself at the same time.

I took my then 7-year-old son on CoP once to escape the heat a bit but I didn't think it would interest him much. I glanced at him from time to time during the ride and he seemed kind of zoned out, like he was bored. When it was finally over, he looked up at me and said "can we ride that again?!" I had mistaken a look of rapt attention for zoned-out boredom. He loved--and still loves--CoP. We've never gotten stuck on it, though.

I heard what may be an urban legend about a group of young boys who were at Disney for Warner-Pop week. Supposedly about ten of them went in to CoP and sat in the back row. About every thirty seconds one of them would get up and leave, causing it to start over and over repeatedly. Not sure if this really happened.

if I remember correctly there are places within that ride that would put you back stage and not able to get back into park, not sure I would try that without a CM with me as it could get you put out of park

In 2008 I got stuck on that ride. It played each scene between 2 and 3 times before moving on. I have to admit I broke a cardinal rule that time. On the 2nd replaying of each scene I took pictures with flash. I admit it it was me (only other time I have ever used flash was on PoTC we were stuck in the redhead area for about 25 min).
