Does anyone know the end date of the Hyperspace overlay?
A while back I heard (can't remember what site) that it was probably ending in May. Just wondering if there was anything official. We're hoping it will still be around when we visit in July.

I honestly don't see it going anywhere any time soon. The lines are always long and Fast Passes still run out. It has supposedly ended several times over, but it always gets extended or comes back. I think it will probably stay until Star Wars Land opens.

My guess is that it will keep going until they have another Season of the Force event and then they'll end it after that. Either that, or it will go on until Star Wars Land opens. The only other option is that after this October's Ghost Galaxy overlay comes down, it'll go back to the normal version.

For me, I love the Hyperspace version of it, but I also loved the original version. The upbeat spy-movie music with simply stars swirling is great. Either way, this ride will still be the crown jewel of Disneyland, and will still have long lines and run out of FPs before any other ride.

Once it got going I enjoyed the ride, but as a Star Wars geek, I found the beginning to be underwhelming. You're barely moving up the tunnel, but the display shows you going through Hyperspace.

Such a good question that I have been wondering about since the first time they said it was seasonal and would be going away. That was like what.. a year and a half ago? Lol. I am not a Star Wars fan, but I do really like hyperspace mountain so I am not complaining ;)

Thanks for your replies!
I've always been a bit of a baby when it comes to rides but I promised my sister that I would do Space Mountain with her only if the Star Wars overlay is still on. So this is a blessing and a curse haha!

Seasonal is Disney-speak for, we don't know how popular this will be or how much it will cost to maintain, so we're not going to commit yet.

My 7 y/o (also a huge SW geek) said the same thing! "That was NOT hyperspace!"

My family and I will be there the week of Halloween, which is on a Tuesday. About how long can I expect Space Mountain to be down for (what I hope) will be the reapplication of Hyperspace Mountain?

To remove SMGG takes about 2 days to remove. In 2015 the ride was down for 2 weeks for the switch over, last year it was the standard 2-3 days. The thing is, Space hasn't has a refurb since the 2015 2 week switch. So if one doesn't happen between Labor Day and SMGG, it will probably be after Halloween.

So off the wall question for a non ride rider would I be able to ride this? When we went in oct I was able to ride BTM, matterhorn and RSR without a problem but we were unable to get on space mountain because of the lines...Yes im a ride wimp *LOL* :confused3

It depends what bothers you on rides. The one or two drops it has (I can only remember one but not positive) are comperable to the hills at the end of RSR, and the speed seems similar to that too, I think. But it's dark, so you can't see what's coming up, and the cold indoor air somehow makes it seem faster. Overall I consider it tame for a coaster because it mostly just makes sharp turns and feels fast - it doesn't do much in the way of drops, loops or spins. You can find a ride through with the lights on on youtube. It spoils the mystery of it, but that way you can see what the track looks like.

Well I guess i'll have to suck it up and do it.. I mean it cant be that bad if its only a 40" Height requirement *LOL*

TOT was only a 40" drop...

Space is mostly just a bunch of turns down in the darkness...It's my favorite at DL.

LOL. Oops! I meant it was only a 40" height requirement. In regards to LaVon saying if it is only a 40" requirement it couldn't be that bad.
Ah, makes sense. I think that the newer rides have lower height requirements because wherever possible the vehicle and restraint system are designed to accommodate more rides. But height restrictions aside, many non-riders have a trigger. I have one friend who has no problem with inversions but won't do TOT and another who is fine with TOT but is terrified of any inversion.

I'd describe Space as a spiral. It's like a mini-coaster on top, and then it basically settles into a spiral. Compared to BTMRR and Matternhorn, it's a relatively smooth ride. I'm not sure if it's like this for new riders, but if you look ahead, you can mostly see the track. I think HSM and SMGG sort of distract you from the ride motion, but if you ignore the screens, it's a pretty straight forward ride. Unless your trigger happens to be the dark.
