Screamscape is reporting the following (semi-confirmed):

Any news out there on this? Brilliant idea.

http://www.screamscape.com/html/walt_disney_world.html

2005/2006 - Broadway Style Musical - Semi-Confirmed - (8/22/03) Disney’s Exec. VP for Creative Entertainment (Anne Hamburger) confirmed in a German stage/muscial magazine interview that construction would likely begin soon on a new Hyperion Theater (broadway style theater building) somewhere in WDW that would feature an all new show based upon one of the Disney’s Princesses, and not a copy of the Aladdin show at California Adventure.

Is anyone else thinking this is what is going to go in place of 20K Leagues? It seems only logical that you would put a princess show in Fantasy land.

This is a great rumor but I'm hoping for the Studios.

Well, given that screamscape has posted it within the Studios news I'd say that's the probable likelihood here. I hope this one turns out to be on target.

The Hyperion theatre in DCA is a great venue. There's nothing in WDW to compare to it. It's time to bring a little Broadway to town.

Hmm, I wonder if it will replace the Indiana Jones Stunt Show once 'Lights, Motors, Action' starts?

It makes sense to me to put a 'Hollywood Theatre' right there...

I'll miss Indiana Jones though.

Festival of Fools was near where they built 'Lights, Motors' wasn't it?

Did the area 'survive' the new show?

WDWHound,

I'm not sure if you are referring to the hunchback show at the Studios or the "Festival of Fools" theatre in Disneyland.

At WDW, it was performed in the old backlot theatre which was located on NY Street where the Stunt show is now being housed.

In Disneyland I believe that theatre is now being used for the Snow White musical.

here's an older map of the studios. Today, you'll see the NYC backdrop and facade in that area.

regarding location - I'm thinking we don't need the space Indy took up for this theatre. Hopefully that will house a new attraction. It really belongs more along the "mickey avenue" area which used to be twice the size.

look at this 1991 park map http://www.themeparkbrochures.com/maps/1991/mgm1991.html

The hyperion is a two story building which seats 2000. Here's a DCA map to get an idea comparatively. (located in the hollywood pictures backlot section)

You're right, I got the names crossed. I was referring to the Hunchback show. I only got to see it once, just before it closed and I thought it might be a good location for a new theater. However, I rememebered it being in a different place and since that location apparently now houses the stunt show stadium, that would seem unlikely.

Actually, the Snow White musical at Disneyland is in the Fantasyland Theatre, near the entrance to Mickey's ToonTown. It was originaly built as Videopolis, and has been home to other big musicals over the years.

The Festival of Fools at Disneyland was in an area behind Thunder Mountain. I checked Yesterland, but the Festival of Fools isn't included.

But back to the original topic... If WDW gets a new theater for big stage shows, it really should be in the Magic Kingdom. That park needs a venue for such shows. But Disney-MGM already relies heavily on theatres of one kind or another. Disney-MGM needs a couple of good, immersive familiy dark rides.

Ian't it true that they have closed off the open-air Tomorrowland theater? There's a site.

Would there be room enough where the former Superstar Television show was? That building has gone unused for some time now. I guess there was that Doug Live show there in 2001, followed by that preview of ABCs new TV shows, which I guess did not last long since the season that it was there, ABC did not have many good shows.... :confused3

For that matter, Sounds Dangerous is already a waste of space. If there was ever a worse attraction, I haven't been on it yet. Perhaps they could use that theater.
