Hyde County, NC?

Hey!
I'm leaving Sat. for a mission trip to Hyde County, North Carolina! Is anyone farmiliar with the area? We are staying in one of the local high schools. There will be 40 from our group and about 20 from another group staying and working in construction and kid clubs (VBS basically). Sunday morning we are going to the last Methodist church before Va to sing in their morning service! I'm excited about it!!
Just wondered if anyone could tell me something about the area, cause we know nothing!!

do your know what towns are nearby? I can't tell by the county.

I looked and found that the countyseat is Swan Quater and one of the towns is named Ocracoke. The trivia about it is "It has the distinction of being the only county in North Carolina without a single stoplight (although a blinking yellow light hangs near Swan Quarter)."

Hyde county is on the outerbanks just south of Dare county where Manteo and Nags Head are.

At which high school will you be staying? Hyde county includes Ocracoke Island and then way across the Pamlico Sound, Swan Quarter and Lake Mattamuskeet.

Actually this morning I found out that we are going to be staying in either Columbus or Columbia High. I think it is in a surrounding county. And also found out we are going to a theme park, but that could be on the way back home and not in the area!

Which theme park ar eyou going too? Carowinds? If so, while you are there-- we are about 2 miles from the park.

I just found out tonight that we are going to Carowinds! I looked at the website a little bit, and it looked pretty cool! Im excited! We are eating 3 meals (2 lunch, one supper) in the park- how are the prices? Similar to Disney?

The prices for food are about par on any other amusement park. But for the cheaper sales tax, eat on the SC side. The NC side charges 7 1/2%, while I think the SC side is only 6. If you're not sure, just check the inspection score in the window (every vendor has one posted). It'll be issued by the respective state.
