Hyatt Regency OC questions

Hi,

We'll be staying here for our June DL trip, and I was wondering - I Pricelined this hotel ($45! a night) and would like to know if anyone else who had been there thru Priceline was successful in getting an upgrade - how much did it cost, how did you ask?

Also, any general comments about the hotel would be great!

My DS and I stayed there (priceline rate) a couple of years ago. There is an extra charge for self parking (then it was $11.00 per day) and valet was more. It is a big hotel. When we checked in our bathroom had mold all over the shower and on the bathroom ceiling. I went down to the front desk and they gave us a different room which was a little better. The room was nice. The distance to the Disneyland resort was a few blocks but not too bad.

I read on BiddingForTravel.com that the Hyatt had a complete renovation and all the rooms in the older tower were redone.. current reviews say it is really nice!
Check out the reviews on biddingfortravel and you will likley see apost on how an upgrade works... I rember reading about upgrading to a Kid Suite for an extra $15 to $40 a night ( if you sign up for Haytt's frequent traveler program you might get a lower upgrade fee).. but that was posts from 2001- 2003 no recent posts now that renovation is done.

One thing you have to be careful about at this hotel is that they will not let you check in before 4PM without charging you a fee, whether or not there is a room available.

First time I stayed there they charged $25 a night for us to upgrade to a kids suite. Rooms in the south tower had not been redone and were old, worn down and just down right gross. We switched to a North Tower kids suite that first time and even it had carpet with red stains. The second time we stayed there I emailed them and we got a north tower room (not a suite) and didn't have to pay for an upgrade. This was July 2003 & April 2004.

If all rooms were redone that I might chance bidding on Priceline again for Disneyland area. It is because of this hotel that I have avoided bididng on Priceline for this area.

I did read on Biddingfortravel that the place was fully renovated (there was even a posting from Hyatt management - Oh, the power of boards!), so I'm not too concerned about the state of the rooms.

Has anyone stayed there in, say, the past few months? Can anyone tell me about the pools? I'm assuming there's no way around the parking fee, huh? No on the street parking?

We have stayed there twice in the last year. Both times we had done priceline at $25 a night. We stayed May 2004, upgraded to a kids suite with bunk beds & a king for $40 a night. It was nice. The parking was $12 a day which is a little high, but even the Disney hotels are about $9 a day. We stayed in December of 2004 and stayed in the old tower with an updated room. It was fabulous!!! The beds were wonderful, we paid $15 for the week to get a refrig for drinks, etc. WE would not pay the extra $40 again, especially since you do not get an extra bathroom. We found the hotel very nice & the staff very helpful.

Stayed in Jan 04. Great room for the price. Bus service was good. Kids loved having a pizza hut and starbucks in the hotel. Good resturants across the street. Will be staying again at this hotel in July.

We just stayed there last month and I would say the room must have been renovated. It was nice enough and clean and looked as though it had been redone. I did look down at the pool and was not impressed. I don't remember their being any trees around it or other greenery. It just seemed like a regular pool and with kids that is probably all they want. We didn't take the shuttle so I can't comment on that but they do charge for parking which is such a scam with hotels now. They are far away and I wouldn't try walking especially after a day at the parks. We plan on staying there again using gold passport points this summer and if it were not free we would look into staying somewhere closer.

my question was going to be about the pool. sounds disappointing

has anyone stayed at the hyatt and the howard johnson and how they compare. i have a discount coupon that would make a one bedroom king suite the same price as a room at the howard johnson. we stayed there before and it did its job, but thought about this trip staying at the hyatt.

any suggestions?

There are two pools at the Hyatt. One next to the South Tower and one by the North Tower. At the pool near the Starbucks, you can have food and drinks delivered right to your seat. I asked about an upgrade and the price was $40.00 with Hyatt Gold Passport.

I got the Hyatt for $44 on Priceline in October 2003. Even with the parking fee, it was less than HoJo would have been. Although I love HoJo and it would be my first choice for an offsite hotel if there were no such thing as Priceline, for the same price, I think I would prefer staying at the Hyatt. The Hyatt is further away and you need to catch the shuttle to the parks, but I thought the shuttle service was very convenient. We used it at different times during the day and never had to wait very long. It did stop at some hotels across the street, but even with those stops, the trip didn't take long.

The Hyatt was also very convenient to stores (I think it was a Target) and lots of restaurants (Joe's Crab Shack and others).

We were allowed to check in early without any extra fee (I think it was around 11 a.m.). However, we did have the Hyatt Gold Passport, so I don't know if that made a difference. Also, they put us on the Gold Passport floor and we had a great view of the atrium. I thought it was an excellent deal.

We got the Hyatt in Sept 2003 thru Priceline for $40. We upgraded for $40 more to a kidsuite. It was very nice and spacious for our family of four. There was a fridge and microwave in our kidsuite, and the DDs loved the bunk beds and their own TV in their room. DH and I had a king-sized bed. Even with the upgrade, we thought we got a great deal.

DH loved the Starbucks in the lobby. DDs liked the pool and hot tub outside of Starbucks. The shuttle was efficient, never a wait. (Note that the shuttle sometimes does not run mid-day. Important info to get from the driver if you want to run back to the hotel for a nap.) I loved the Target kitty corner to the hotel, where we bought our bottled water.

The only thing we thought was unreasonable was the hotel restaurant which had an expensive menu...but hey...I guess that's to be expected for a hotel restaurant.

Has anyone ever upgraded (with a Priceline bid) to one of the other types of suites? We have 3 children, but 2 of them are taller than I am now (17, 15 and 12), and so even though they can all still stay in the same room with us, it IS getting a little tight . We were hoping to upgrade to the 2 Queen suite, and don't mind paying the difference, but I called the hotel to ask what the upgrade price was, and they couldn't tell me.

Also, how does one get to be a Hyatt Gold Passport member?

I've upgraded to a kids suite, I think it was an additional $25/night.

They will not tell you how much to upgrade now, I think, because I am sure it depends on bookings at the time you check in. If there are rooms available of course they will let you upgrade and pay accordingly. I am also sure the less rooms they do have available the more that upgrade will be. I have heard people being able to upgrade for as little as $15 and as much as $45.
