Hyatt Place at Anaheim Resort/Convention Center

Hi, just curious if anyone has any thoughts on the Hyatt Place that is being built near DLR?

I have read some reviews on TripAdvisor and this site about other Hyatt hotels and they seem to be very well received.

I was looking at the Hilton for mid October (12th-15th).. the week we are looking at doesn't have a convention (yet) but is sandwiched between two pretty big ones on either weekend. It is my understanding that these large conventions draw a lot of families that decide to turn it into a vacation at the same time.

I would rather avoid a busy hotel if I can.. Hyatt appears to be right next door and even offers a free breakfeast/wifi. I imagine the rooms will be nice as the hotel will only be a few months old, and it seems every where I look they get great service reviews.

I know it is hard to review a hotel that is yet to be built, but I was just wondering if anyone else had any comments on past experiences at Hyatt Hotels and/or expectations they have for trips to this new hotel to help me make my decision.

Thanks a lot.

We have a Hyatt Place near work that is everyone's favorite place to stay when here on business. It used to be a Sierra Suits. I don't know much About Hyatt Place but in looking at pictures it appears they took over a variety of buildings some that look like older Hampton ins or similar and some new places.
I would suspect that the New Hyatt Place will be nice and would try it myself if it were closer. Yes we are getting spoiled when staying right at the crosswalk.

I love the Hyatt Place concept. I've stayed at a couple different locations. The rooms are spacious and the amenities are excellent. Typically free WiFi although I'm not sure about free parking in a place like Anaheim. Breakfast was good.

However, I did stay at these locations via Priceline bidding. $40-50 a room, although it wasn't a peak day. I remember being in the lobby hearing someone tack on a day at a $90 corporate rate. Even though we stayed via Priceline, in no way did I get that we were treated any differently. We were provided cribs (we got two rooms once for a stay with my in-laws and my brother-in-law and his family) without any issue. Every room had a sofa bed, and I think that's the case for the entire brand.

It is kind of casual by design though. If you're OK with the staff wearing T-shirts instead of more formal uniforms, the rest should work well.

I've stayed at a couple that look like they were specifically designed for the brand with the rooms built to their standard layouts. I've also seen two different layouts, with one very different one for a corner room. The more common layout is the front area then the sleeping area, but with the bathroom entrance in the middle off to the side. The rooms were really big - especially for the price we paid. I suppose rebranded hotels can often be different because they don't want to knock down walls.

Another similar concept is Hyatt House, although those often seem to be rebranded hotels taken over as Hyatt franchises. I know of one place that had an independent name, then "Hyatt Summerfield Suites" before it got the Hyatt House name. There was a small chain called "Hotel Sierra" but where all of them were rebranded as Hyatt House.

You are correct. The place near us is a Hyatt House not Hyatt Place. Sorry about the wrong info. But if they build a Hyatt House it would probably be good. :)

As a family of 6, we have always felt like our options near Disneyland have been limited (unless we want to pay for 2 rooms), so I have been following a lot of the recent hotel construction with great interest. I am actually considering this hotel for our next stay.

We stayed in a Hyatt Place near Salt lake City about 2 years ago and we were very pleased. We could have all 6 of us in one room. There were 2 beds plus the sofa bed. The room itself had a small dividing wall, but it wasn't entirely closed off between the beds and the front area of the room, so if privacy is an issue, you'd be better off booking something like the Embassy suites that has 2 truly divided rooms. Also, there is only one bathroom, so that can be a little tricky with larger parties. There was also a mini fridge and if I remember correctly, a microwave as well. The free breakfast wasn't the best food, but had enough options to get us going in the morning. Nothing too special about the hotel, but it was clean and service was good.

Also, just to throw this out there, they are also building a new Hyatt House which seems like it might be just a bit closer to Disneyland. I haven't stayed in a Hyatt House, so not exactly sure how it differs from a Hyatt Place. And there will also be a new Marriot Springhill Suites in that same area, right across from the new Hyatt House, but the rates on Marriott's website seem REALLY high, like $400 a night. It's just nice to have to some new options for modern, updated hotels.

I think the Hyatt Place concept involves a standard layout room. As far as I can tell, all locations were specifically built to Hyatt Development's specifications. I've seen many of these locations, and there's no particular uniqueness in the designs compared to other hotels of the brand.

I've stayed in one place that was rebranded later as a Hyatt House. One of the employees (worked front desk then the bar on separate days) said that they were going to change the name. It seems like most of the Hyatt House locations were previously some other brand, and that the room layout will be inherited from the previous place and not necessarily some brand standard room layout.
