Hello, this is my first post. Last year my husband and I took a honeymoon cruise on the Wonder and on board we booked our 1st anniversary cruise on the Magic (October 16, 2004 Eastern). Since it is just the two of us right now (we are hoping to bring home a little souvenir) we bought DCL transfers from the airport to port. Last year we stayed at the Hyatt for about $85.00 plus taxes, but this year the prices have went way up, last month they were $160.00 per night and now I just checked and they are up the $179.00 plus 11.50% tax! Has anyone stayed at a hotel near the airport and took a hotel shuttle back to the airport in the morning to catch the transfer? How was it and what hotel did you stay at? Do you carry your luggage to the bus yourself? Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

we stayed at the hyatt last friday night, as our plane home was leaving early Sat a.m. I forgot to make a reservation, although I had called many times to inquire as to the prices. I called, sort of in a panic, Friday a.m. and ended up getting a room for FAR LESS than I had been qouted in advance....... I think the price was around $102, with AAA discount.

Phone them Directly! Don't go thru their reservations or website.

Get the Hotel # and speak to them directly. Maybe you can get a better rate!

Does it have to be the Hyatt?

there are several other hotels that u could sty at for 1 night before your cruise..

I dont know how brave u are but u could try priceline and get a room for about $35.00 or so... check out this site for the King and Queen of cruising Disney...they always get a room off of priceline..www.Disneycruiser.com

No matter were u end up in an Hotel near the airport u coud always use there shuttle serviice or taxi to get back to Mco
for the shuttle bus for the cruise

also there is hotwire. com

and I looked on hot wire $57.00 for a 3 1/2 star with airport shuttle is what I saw.. that was most expensive one others were priced lower as low as $34.00 bucks...

for one night to Crash I might give it a try...

Also the hyatt has been know to show up on priceline....

would have to do a little research?

Are u getting in late ??

Why not skip the transfer altogether and just stay at a hotel in Cape Caniveral or Cocoa Beach? I think the transfers cost more than doing it on your own, unless of course, the transfers are included in your package! Just an obsrevation: it seems like a lot of hassle going back and forth.

I would think it's more of a hassle to rent a car and drive to the port. You'd have to wait in line to get the car after landing, drive to the coast, then wait in line to drop the car off in the morning and catch a shuttle to the port. With the busses, you check in, get on board, sleep or read for an hour, and you're there. You don't deal with your bags after checking in for the bus, and if you stay at the Hyatt, you can leave them outside your room and they'll be delivered to the ship. On debarkation morning, you can check your bags at the port (depending on which airline you'r flying), hop on a bus, and go right through to your gate once you get to the airport. If you rent a car, you'd have to get a shuttle from the port to the rental desk, wait in line to get the car, drive, wait in line to drop it off at the airport, then get you and your luggage from the rental desk to the terminal.

It's more expensive to go the Hyatt/Bus route, but it is definitely the easiest way to go, IMHO. Even if you end up paying $160 for the Hyatt, the difference between that and what you'd pay staying at an off-airport hotel is only going to be a small percentage of the entire vacation. The convenience may offset that for you. Here's some info on various airport hotels to help you choose:

Good luck!

I think all Hyall Hotels have a "best rate guarantee" on their website, saying you won't get a better rate anywhere else. I suppose that means we may not find cheaper rates on the big travel sites, like expedia, travelocity, orbitz, etc but it's worth a try.

If you DO find a better rate, the reward is a $50 AmEx gift cheque. Buys a nice dinner for that night.

We got the Hyatt on priceline in March for $40. It was a gamble but we were willing to do it. If another hotel had come through we were still going to stay at the Hyatt.

$40? Good grief! We paid approx $140 in March. Oh well, its still the best option for us after a very long flight. Getting off the plane and istantly booking into a hotel is far preferable to waiting around for a car, etc., and then driving on to the Port. Sat morn was a breeze: suitcases taken straight to the ship, and we travelled on the Disney bus. MAGIC! Nat:Pinkbounc

Just curious whether the Hyatt has a pool? My little water bugs find that to be the most important part of any hotel experience.

I was thinking of staying at a hotel near the airport (with shuttle service) and use the transfers, but we arrive at 2:30pm on Friday (the day before). I don't think there is any transportation to the World from MCO for relative cheap/free.

Thus, we will probably be renting a car anyway just to spend the afetrnoon and evening outside of the airport. :D Thus, it almost seems silly not to drive the car to the port in the morning and add that convenience as well.

Any thoughts??

Yes, there is a pool at the Hyatt, but sadly we were too late arriving on the Friday evening to take advantage of it! I think it's on approx 4th floor? We took a look at it, and it was EMPTY! Oh well, maybe next year! Nat:Pinkbounc

Greysword,

In your situation, I'd say rent the car. You've got the better part of the afternoon to do something, and a rental car is probably the best way to go. You could drive to the WDW resort and get in some time at one of the parks or Downtown Disney, stay the night in a nearby (the resort, that is) hotel, and then drive to the coast in the morning.

In my case, we usually get in at 5:30ish, and after getting up a 4:00am to get to the airport, I don't feel up to doing much of anything but having a swim, shower and dinner and a beer. The Hyatt is perfect for this, since I can check right in, get cleaned up and refreshed, have some dinner in the terminal and hit the sack in order to be ready for the cruise the next day.
