Google maps is showing the walks between 0.6-0.9 miles. We like to go back to the hotel during the afternoons, so this would mean four times walking (in addition to walking around the parks). Uber and/or taxi are options, but we have some young ones with us and taking a booster seat into the parks doesn't sound appealing. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!

You could walk to the Toy Story lot and take the bus in. Using the measuring tool on Google Maps says it will save you about a 1/4 mile each way and it would take more time, so probably not worth it.

The ART bus 3 stops just across the street. The walk in the morning isn't bad, but doing it at the end of the night, plus two more times for nap time does not sound like fun. I would take the bus for the trips back to the hotel. You can find info/timetables at http://rideart.org/

This is perfect - thanks so much!

We just got back from a 5 day trip with a 2 and 5 year old in a double stroller. We stayed at the Hyatt House and walked to the park and back for a nap every day, then returned to the park every evening.

Once you cross Harbor to the opposite corner there is only one more traffic light to wait on (at the intersection where Disney busses enter). We found the walk usually took about ten minutes depending on how crowded the sidewalk was. I didn't feel like it added that much walking to the trip. We liked the flexibility to leave whenever we wanted instead of waiting on transportation, with the added benefit of leaving the loaded stroller as is instead of having to unload and fold it up for a shuttle. But we are also the type to always walk in from the parking lot at WDW instead of waiting on the tram.

Thanks for your response. The girls are 6 and 7, so we won't have a stroller (it's our first Disney trip without one). At WDW, I would load up my daughter in the stroller and walk from the Contemporary to MK. I think our DL plan will be to walk there in the morning and take the ART back.
