Welcome to the Kindle family!!!

Just play with it a while and become familiar with the basic navigation. You'll pick it up very quickly!!

Then, go to the Amazon Kindle book pages and search for Kindle books sorted by price lowest to highest. The free books will come up first.

Also, go to the Discussion pages and there will be some posts about free books - there is a poster who usually lists all of the current ones each day. You'll get in the groove pretty quickly!!

If you are on FB, go to Free Books for Kindle and like them. You'll get a post on your wall when there is something new. I tend to forget to go some of the other sites and this is a great reminder for me!

Kindleboards.com has a forum called the book bazaar. There is a thread for free books and another one for cheap books. Both threads are added to on a regular basis. There are new books almost every day. Its important to check daily b/c some books are free only for a very limited time.

I signed up with eReaderIQ.com and they send me a list of free books from Amazon daily and many days I get more than one email. Sometimes they have as many as 10 free books listed on each email. I am basically lazy and dont want to have to search for the free books. Many times they are not free for very long so you have to "buy" for free when you see them. I received my Kindle for my birthday 3 weeks ago and I think I have now downloaded about 30 free books, (and I am fussy about which ones I want). On this website, near the top right in red, it says "get notified when free titles are added". If you add your email, this is how you get notified.

My DH totally surprised me with mine too! I have downloaded about 50 "free" books and not sure what to read now. Good problem!

I hope the OP doesn't mind if I ask a question. I have a suspicion that my hubby will be surprising me with a Kindle as well. If not I'll be buying one soon. Can I download these free books and store them in anticipation or do I actually have to have the Kindle first?

Download the kindle for pc application. Buy your free books on amazon and have the books sent to your pc. They will also be available in your archived file when you register your new kindle. Then you can just move them from :archived: to whatever file you created to put them in. Some books dont remain free for very long so its a good idea to buy them when you see ones that you would like to read.
