Hello,

I am trying to understand the hurricanes info online regarding 2007 predictions. I can find that they have predicted an ‘above then average season’ but I can’t find where and when they predict these will happen???

Does anyone else know when and where they predict the 2007 hurricanes are going to be?

I know they only guess but as I am going in September this year I thought I would take a little peak.

There are no perdictions as to where the hurricanes will be just the number of them, although the last prediction I read was fewer would make landfall. Mind you last year they predicted a higher number and in the end it was a very quiet year.

i wouldnt worry about it myself. if one does hit they are few and far between so use it as an exciting act that you may never see again. my kids did get excited when we were there for Charley in 2004

Having lived in FL for 10 years now, I find that the predictions are just that. The years they predict will be bad (like last year) are uneventful...2004 was bad. August seems to be the peek month for hurricanes. I suggest you get trip insurance just in case. I would not worry about it till the time of your departure comes near. The Weather Channel does a great job of covering the Tropics. I might share with you that I was holed up at Saratoga Springs when Charley hit back in 2004. I felt safe and secure. The CM's were absolutely wonderful...took care of all the guests with their usual professional courtesy. The Artists' Palette and main building had characters (imagine the dedication of these CM's to come out in that awful weather to keep us entertained!). I shall never forget it.

As Bensmom says, the forecasters make a much bigger deal of this than it probably deserves. Yes, there may be storms this summer (hurricane season officially runs June 1 to Nov 30; in 2004 the worst ones hit in August and September) but they are pretty short-lived and rarely cause much distress to central Florida. The 2004 hurricanes were the worst in a century, so we'd hope we wouldn't be that seriously affected again. The bottom line is, no-one really knows; last year was supposed to be a 'bad' year, but Florida wasn't affected at all.

(However, they are talking about a hurricane out in the Pacific affecting Acapulco next Monday)

I wouldnt worry to much, Disney is sooooo geared up if anything was to happen on your visit.

We're spending a week in Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte late October. A friend who has just sold a house in Florida tells me the area has been hit badly in the past and painted a pretty grim picture.

Can any of you Fl residents out there give me a little more info?

If a hurricane does hit Florida or passes close by, how long will the bad weather last? There was a tropical storm in the gulf when we were there in May 2005 at it rained for almost all of our two weeks!

Punta Gorda was badly hit by the first hurricane in 2004. It has been three years now, and I am sure things are pretty much up and running. You will probably find signs of hurricane damage here and there, but nothing that will affect your enjoyment.
