Hurricane Wilma and New Orleans

The mayor has warned if it turns and heads to New Orleans that everyone better get out of town again. The levees will only handle a Catagory 2 hurricane!!!

Next year, and the year after and so on...the levees can not handle a Hurricane over Catagory 2. Shouldn't this be fixed before the masses move back??

I think if ANY hurricane heads towards New Orleans again, the people HOPEFULLY will have learned to leave & not have to be told to leave.

Most of those who didn't leave...owned no form of transportaion and the were no shelters anywhere in the state set up for 1/2 million evacuees-there was nowhere for them to go.


The city will flood again if the bandaid fix to the levees is not done properly.

I hope it hits New Orleans instead of the Naples Fort Meyers area. NO is already destroyed and very few people are living there. While the Southwest Florida area is more at risk. The people have no where to go, because the path of the hurricane is uncertain. They would evacute right into the storms path.

Oh yeah, that would be just wonderful. then those of us in and and around the north east quadrant of the storm can get slammed again, resulting in even more death and destruction to the area. Yep, that's just what we need.
I'm just curious; do you ever sit and think about what you're going to post BEFORE you post it? I mean, what inside your head tells you that it's a good idea to post some of the things that you do?
I'm praying that this thing just diminishes before it hits anyone. We've all had enough!!

To the OP---they now know it can only withstand a category two. Before, they thought it could stand more, but it wasn't able to. Nothing has changed.

No living environment can be made safe 100% of the time.

We are planning our trip to Hawaii next year...and I'm reading a tourist book on it. The saddest statement in there is that one day every square inch of every island will fall back into the sea. Now--who's to say it won't happen tomorrow or 100s or 1000s of years from now.

New Orleans is a great place---and it sounds like they have their act together and can empty the city of those who want to leave in an efficient manner!

Katrina--they waited too late....but no models showed it heading to NOLA and as soon as they did---they began (though maybe not swiftly enough) to get everything underway!

While Wilma probably won't head that way (hey--if she slows down too much, she'll miss that massive cold front that is supposed to steer her!)...the fact that they are saying something...says something!

They aren't going to get caught with their proverbial pants down. I don't think they are idiotic for saying it at all! Key phrase that you say the Mayor said....IF it turns....yadda yadda yadda. Nothing wrong with that! A lot less people would have been crying foul if this same statement was made regarding Katrina on the Wednesday or Thursday before it hit!

No problem with the statement and no problem with people living in the city.
