Hurricane Seasons??

I was wondering if anyone knew, or knew where I could find out, when is the rainiest season in the caribbean and bahamas. We went on a RC cruise last late July-early August and half of our day at Coco Cay and our whole day in Nassau it was torrential rain. The people at Nassau 'pretty girl, get your hair braided' said it was hurricane season. My aunt had purchased the trip for all of us and she was so upset, my thought was 'I'm in paradise and it's raining, I'm not at work and it's raining- WHO CARES!' However, we didn't get to see or do very much and for our next trip I think I would like to go at a less rainy time of year. Any suggestions?

Hurricane Season is officially half a year... from June 1 to November 30, but the peak of activity seems to be from mid-August to mid-October. I wouldn't necessarily equate sailing during Hurricane Season with the liklihood of getting rained on, though. Hurricanes are low-pressure centers that tend to suck all of the moisture out of the air from hundreds of miles around. Since the captain on your ship will alter your itinerary if necessary to keep you away from hurricanes, you ought to be in an area where the air is dry.

As for rain... some of the places you'll visit are lush and tropical. You can't have that environment without rain to sustain it. But most tropical showers are brief, although intense.

We are going on the Western in sept for my birthday(I was born on a rainy afternoon so if it rains on us it would be apprapoe). and some of the ports of call have web sites that tell about rain fall and stuff, so you might check out the websites of your ports of call.

Thanks for your help! I understand that the world needs rain, that is not at all what I was saying. My point was this... we can't afford to go on these types of vacations very often and when we get a chance to and ports are cancelled and shore excursions are cancelled and it's cold and raining heavily the whole time to where you can't even go on the upper decks of the ship it kind of puts a damper on things. Showers happen, 3 days of torrential rain on a 4 day cruise is disappointing though. We spent a lot of money to basically spend 4 days in a casino which we could do 3 hours from home for a lot less money. See what I'm saying? Thanks for your help both of you and I will have to check out that website!
