Just curious...
When exactly is hurricane season? I always thought it was the Fall through Winter months, but a friend of mine told me that she would never sail in August because that is hurricane season. What months are the best to sail in order to get smooth seas?

Hurricane season is technically begins June 1st 'till the end of November with the peak on September 9th.
Here's a link with a story about predicting hurricanes:

All of the cruise lines will change their routes to avoid any storms. We go in September because the rates drop dramatically and if we get rerouted, it's not that big of a deal for us as we go for the ship & not just the ports.

We've always cruised either mid October or early December and have never had rough seas or the possibility of the ship changing itinerary due to a hurricane....

for the remote risk you may take on by cruising during this time, you are rewarded by:

1. Less crowded ship and ports
2. Much lower value season pricing
3. generally cooler weather vs. spring and summer

:smooth:

Thanks for the information! I'm printing out the article for future reference.
