and according to sky news, the U.S. will be hit by 9 hurricanes and also 17 tropical storms.
I'm sure this is less than last years prediction??

Lets just hope everyone going in the next few months has a safe and enjoyable holiday.
We were just talking generally the other day, about the changing summers etc. I can remember going to Florida in the summer months years ago, and only see rain at 8 pm on the odd evening. Now we seem to get downpours on most days.
:rolleyes2 :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2

when do they stop

DH has just told me that 16 hurricanes are forecast this season - so I think he has got his hurricanes confused with his tropical storms :rotfl:
Hurricanes were one of the reasons he didn't want to go this August but we persuaded him, now we've got to hope we don't get caught up in one or we will never hear the last of it

Just make sure you check out the Weather Channel on TV when you're there!!
Don't worry.

We were there during hurricane Jeanne in September 2004 - I found the hype before hand to be worse than the hurricane. We stayed at POFQ and were really looked after buy the staff.

Lets hope the hurricanes if they do happen are mild this year.

We were also there for hurricane Jeanne and i have to agree, it was worse for me and more worrying before the hurricane not knowing what to expect, they are all ready and geared up for when the storms arrive.

Another Jeanne "survivor" here - we should start a club!! We had some food in the apartment and were fine for the day, to be honest, we were more bored than anything as we couldn't go outside and there was no TV as the power was out until teatime. We all sat reading our books and mags from the airport, playing cards and playing games like noughts and crosses. What we saw of it during the Sunday seemed no worse than a nasty storm here. I know it was a LOT worse where it hit on the coast though :(

It's life, Jim, but not as we know it.

Sorry, sorry, had to say it.... one of the hurricanes this year will be called Kirk......

Another one here that was in Orlando for Jeanne - weird! My most enduring memory is how noisy it was - when anyone asked me what it was like when we got home, I said "Loud"!

Really? When I went for my first trip in 1992 in August / September it rained most afternoons, and the locals all said this was quite normal. That was my first trip so I don't know what it was like before then :)

I assumed it was due to the sub tropical climate, not worsening climate change?

Same for me in 1990 when like clockwork it rained in the afternoon. In 1993 it was a very dry year and the locals were worried about the lack of rain, both years I went in August.

Yes Miffy it is due to the sub tropical climate the 'afternoon' downpour.

Claire ;)
