We are in Central Jersey about 10 miles from the beach and still don't have power.

We were were working at the distribution center in Union Beach today. It is just unimaginable what the town looks like. I've heard that 75% of the structures in the town have major damage, a lot of them being condemned. People are trying to get out as much stuff as possible before the "new storm" hits on Wednesday. The new storm is nothing compared to Sandy, but these people have no walls to protect their belongings. I've heard that Keyport, Highlands, Seabright and the Port Monmouth section of Middletown were all hit really bad too.

I personally know 4 different people who lost their homes (2 condemned and 2 with more than 4 feet of water in the first floor (not basement)) and are sorting through "stuff" trying to find pictures/papers/any treasures. it is just heart breaking.

My heart goes out to all my fellow DVC'ers who are still without power or the basic necessities of life! Please know you all are in my prayers. It's so heartbreaking to watch the news and see so many people trying to salvage what they can from their homes. My one friend in Northern NJ has been without power since the beginning. But with the Grace of God her home was spared.

And now another storm? I just don't know.....

I live in Morris County, NJ and still do not have power. Nothing like this storm approaching and temperatures outside of 19 degrees this morning. Ouch. The good news is I will be at BLT this Thursday for a nice long trip. Get me out of here!!!!

Enjoy your trip!! We have suffered a lot on Long Island also. Hopefully your power will turn on shortly!!

The news, the stories, the devastation, is heart wrenching. The thing that kept us somewhat sane when we went through this with Frances, Wilma & Rita was being able to help in some small way, even though we had damages or for some devastation, providing a simple cup of hot coffee or a warm meal to a neighbor made it so that you could face the day! You were doing something, other than just waiting. We joined whole neighborhoods and cooked group meals using BBQ grills, cooking any food we all had left. We ate together, each guarding/securing our homes, for some just guarding what they had left, all pulling together.

I pray for you all and though recovery can't come soon enough, try to stay strong.

We were actually in Disney and couldn't get out - flights cancelled etc. We had to stay three more nights, which we didn't budget for, because we couldn't get home. Ended up buying one way tickets to fly us to another airport and drive.

Again, thankful we are home and safe.

Being far away and not knowing what was happening to your home must have been very difficult.

I was at Disney this week-end and spoke to a retired couple from NJ who had arrived a few days before the storm. They were getting information from their neighbor that they were without power but that damages to there street weren't as bad as the the neighbors behind them. They were thankful that their neighbor had cleaned out their big freezer and fridge.

I'm in Ohio, and stood in line to vote & decided to chat with the gal behind me. I asked if she had friends/relatives on the east coast. She has a place in Avalon NJ, and will be heading there this weekend to see for herself! However, she knows her place is safe because neighbors there who weren't as lucky will be living in her home until theirs is repaired. We were chatting about how neighborly her NJ community is, coming together in the past as you describe.

Hi everyone. I am in Staten Island. I am not too far from two of the few devastated areas here. I ended up evacuating. I am in zone A but a block away from where zone b ends. The ocean water reached the stop sign at one corner. Two blocks away went past me to zone B. Other parts of zone B also had water to the second floor. My dil's two uncles had to be rescued from the attic - zone B. My friend's mom passed along with her friend - like many others who refused to live. We lost 23 lives here. My brother had just moved into my mom's basement about two weeks ago with his family. He sold his house and was waiting to close on his new one so he could have mom move in with him. He also stored all his things in her two car garage. All gone including a van and motorcycle.

We are still without power, heat or phone. My bil from upstate was able to purchase a generator for us since they were hard to get a few days ago. I said, I don't care how much, bring it down. Now they are selling them everywhere but we are going crazy trying to get gas for our cars and generators. i can now on on the internet when the generator is running. Hoping gas situation gets better. This is becoming the norm here, the incoveniences stink but I am not complaining. Except for the power, by block was okay except for some down trees and wires. It was scary. Next time we are evacuating when they tell us.

I cried when I took a walk down to two of the areas that really got hit hard. Boats on lawns, on top of cars. Roofs off houses, houses off the foundation. People sleeping cars. Everyone is helping out - giving out food, batteries, lights, people walking with shovels, rakes, piks to see if anyone needs help cleaning out. This area is insane right now. I just feel terrible for the ones that got hit directly.

I was out on LI Sunday and OMG...saw so many housed with trees on them and I wasn't even in the worse part of the Island!!! We had to bring DS's GF back to Adelphi. Her train was still suspended Sunday and we didn't want her stranded Monday when classes began. Be safe...do you have power yet?

we had no power (no heat, no hot water......nothing) for 6 days. there was frost on the inside of our windows, and even our golden retreiver was shivering (we had him cuddle with us, covered with every blanket we have).

btw, i decided on the 3rd day that i would've made a horrible pioneer - hot showers are just too important
thankfully, all that we lost was monetary and comparatively minor. my brother (on a canal), had a few hundred thou in damage, and still no electric. the cottage my dad lived in at the back of my brother's house was destroyed with waves that came in over 4 feet high......heating systems, cars, etc all need to be replaced, and they haven't flood ins (carriers stopped issueing it on many LI areas a while ago).

still, we are alive and well - that is enough to be thankful for (especially as my mom just passed away unexpectedly 2 months ago, and almost lost dad to a brain infection).....2012 has been a really tough year

We took a ride thru Keyport today, our favorite restaurant "Ye Cottage Inn" is a mere shell. The boat yards in Laurence Harbor, Morgan and South Amboy are a mess. We got our power back Sunday. Now we have almost 5 inches of snow on the ground. Were were living in the dark for 7 days, but we did have a gas logged fireplace, and it gave us heat in the one room. We only had some trees down but no damage to our home. The rest of the town, South Amboy, was not so lucky.
