Hurricane Sandy

Lower Manhattan just got power back but I'm not sure about "steam" for heat. Passed through Northern New Jersey and saw alot of traffic lights not working. And the gas lines....horrible. Reminded me of the 70's.

Our home in the Pocono Mountains lost power for a few hours but the entire area looks like they were very lucky. We had a few trees down but not anywhere near the house or garage. Saw alot of trees down along the road and in some back yards but in talking with neighbors and business owners it wasn't nearly as bad as they expected. Now they're concerned for "this other storm" expected Wednesday.

To all still affected; my heart breaks each time I see the pictures. I still find it so hard to believe that what I'm seeing is in my city and not in some war zone in another country.

I pray for those missing that they are located and are safe. I pray for those without power and the necessities of life that they get the help they need. And for those who lost everything I pray the hardest for. I can't imagine what you all are going through.

North shore of Suffolk county Long Island here. Still without power, heat, ect. I am exhausted. My boys are faring better than the adults. They are so resilient. Hoping power returns soon.

Driving son's girlfriend back to Adelphi University tomorrow since the LIRR still isn't running the Hempstead line. Hope they have power...

My heart goes out to you and all still severely affected. Kids are resilient thankfully. I do hope things get better for you and soon!

The loss has been devastating to watch. :( I've got a dear friend, whose an RN in Jersey, who has been without power, cell, and water for days.

Some parts of NJ look like a war zone. All along Interstate 80 this morning we saw Power Company Trucks from other States on their way to help. Many were along the side of the road also up on polls. So let's hope she get's some relief soon.

We are in north east NJ just got power back last night, but half of our town is still without power, but we are lucky we still have our home and each other. So many areas here are just devastated. The gas lines are outrageous, and tempers are getting short. You always see things like this on the news, but when it happens in your neighborhood it's just surreal.

We saw that yesterday and today when we passed Rt. 46 on our way to the Gap. Very scarey. Heard something on the radio this morning that gas tankers are either in port or on their way. So let's hope.....Glad you're ok!!

We are out in northeastern NJ - still now power here and many trees and wires still down blocking roads. It's difficult without power, especially in the evening when it gets chilly. Town is out of has and grocery store only has dry goods as they are out of power too. We are very fortunate that we still have a home to keep us sheltered - we have family and friends at the shore area who lost everything.

We were actually in Disney and couldn't get out - flights cancelled etc. We had to stay three more nights, which we didn't budget for, because we couldn't get home. Ended up buying one way tickets to fly us to another airport and drive.

Again, thankful we are home and safe.

Wow, that's sad about the conditions in your home.

I have friends in Bayonne, NJ, but haven't gotten any e-mails from her. Do you know how that part of NJ is?

My friend from Seaside Park actually got better news after the original message, her house is standing and not looking bad at all. She hasn't been able to get to her house to see for sure.

Our home and my mom's home in Cape May suffered no damage!

My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering through all of this. I work for an electric company in the Northwest. They sent out a notice that we are sending crews and trucks to help and many others areas are as well. We are all thinking of you!

We live in central NJ. On Wednesday morning with news that it could be 2 weeks until power was restored we made a snap decision to utilize our DVC membership and head to Florida. We left 5 hours later and are now in Vero Beach. My neighbors tell me that power has been restored to part of the town but not our street yet. Damage for us was moderate but repairable (damage to car due to fallen tree, siding off house, mailbox).

It must be awfully hard to be without power as its getting cold. I'm glad you had some place so nice to go to! What is it like in Vero? Had they had damage grom Sandy at all?

Live in central nj, my town just got power back to most of the residences. After the storm the town had to out up generators at most of the traffic lights, we lost cell service, and power. We lucked out because there was very little rain here - under two inches. Trees were down all over. There were three telephone poles snapped just outside my neighborhood.

We just lost the food in our fridge and went to sleep at 7pm for awhile. Had to go to the library to charge phones and get warmth and internet.

Thank god for the PSEG workers who have been working nonstop to resupply power! We lost more power lines and more power substation, etc than any prior hurricane.

This is our first time in VB and we are really enjoying the resort and beach. I think a lot has to do with the weather which has been perfect. We went on a naturalist beach walk yesterday where we were told that damage to the beach here was extensive - with much of the sand that the state trucked in a few years ago being washed out to sea. Here is what the beach looks like today.

Wow, thanks for the image! It looks like those dunes really saved the resort!

Linda! Thank God you are all safe. We lost power for a few days here and of course there was debris and fallen trees, etc., but nothing like we are seeing up there. I can't believe my eyes. What is going on with weather these days? Now they are predicting a coastal storm for this Wednesday. Rain, wind and SNOW. Good Lord.....

Stay safe, everyone! Dream of days by the pool in Disney with a cocktail. As they say on the bus..."We'll be home soon!" Just not soon enough.

Glad you're ok my friend. It's pretty sureal here. Now we have the gas lines. Brings back memories of the '70's. New Jersey has gas rationing in effect and not sure if it will get to that here in NY. Yes; another storm is on it's way...God help us all...

I am also in northeastern NJ...I have power, please if you need anything PM me... grocery stores are now back up and running here.

Bayonne still has about 17,000 customers without power as of today. PSEG our local service is hoping to have service restored by the end of today. If not they will be moving their disaster center from Hoboken to Bayonne. Hoboken, NJ was flooded worse than I've ever seen in 40 years.

We live in Essex County and just got power back yesterday morning. We are so lucky that it's not colder than this or thing would have been even worse. We just need to Pray that this new storm is not bad.

Wow this is a long time to be without power. Thank you for the information.

My friend in Seaside park went to her house today. She is very lucky, no major house damage. What is bad is that it will be months before people will be able to live in Seaside. There is no water, power or gas, and some roads are deemed unsafe. She has gathered some belongings, and will be living with relatives for sure over the next 2+ months.

My prayers go out to all who are in these troubled areas.

Here in west Milford i still have no power. Living like vagabonds at friends and now inlaws place.

DS is miserable as all of us are.

I thought about "what if" i was in disney now instead of 2 weeks ago. I'm thinking i would just worry more. Oh well. We shall survive. And the generator is on order. Lol
