Hurricane Rita

We had been on the fence about leaving or not when it was a 3 but now that its looking like a 4 we will be leaving. Dh employer (UPS) wont tell them when they are closing.

Hi Queen Q,

Dh and I live in Richmond. Our parents are in Corpus. (We drive through your town quite often on the way to see them.)

Anyway, DH's employer is paying for its employees to stay in Dallas if they want to go (room and board, including meals). Since we have a 2.5 yr old and a 10-month old, we're taking them up on their VERY generous offer. From what I'm seeing on the news it'll probably hit Matagorda and 90 miles either side of landfall will go through hurricane force winds. That includes your town and mine, so it's probably best to go.

Even if there's no structural damage to our house, I don't want to be stuck around here without power or water and possibly trapped by fallen debris on roadways with two small kids in tow, so we're leaving. Probably tomorrow evening.

Good luck and stay safe.

Oh boy!!

My Sis is in Houston Tx and my Mommy too, my Mom is to go on a cruise to Cancun and she's not at her house everytime i called, she's so old fashion and gets on my nerves, she doen't have a cell phone.

My Sis is freaking out, after Katrina's mess!

Good luck and prayers to all of you in the projected storm path.. It's looking like it might be another "monster" - but I'm praying REALLY hard that it won't be..

Stay safe and God bless..

Stay safe, everyone! And please, err on the side of caution with your evacuation and preparation plans.

My "baby" sister and her family are about to be evacuated out of Friendswood. They were supposed to fly up to Seattle to visit our Grandmother. Looks like her DH will ride it out in Waco to be as near the house as he can. She and the two boys will spend Wednesday night in a hotel near the airport and then try and keep their flight out of Houston on Thursday morning. They were putting everything they could on the second floor of the house, boarding up the windows and getting ready. School has apparently been cancelled for the rest of the week (hey, the boys won't be missing school after all!)....they JUST replaced the wood floor on the main floor of their house after a little plumbing flood this summer. Looks like they may be doing it again if Rita hits as predicted!

We will keep all of you in the danger area in our prayers. Get out, stay safe. As my DD8 says- you can always replace things, but you can't replace people!

Well, I am so clueless!! We just got back from our vacation to Destin, FL. Being on vacation, we watched no news!! Well, we got home late last night and watched the news this morning for the first time in 5 days! To my surprise, we are looking at a Cat 4 hurricane. We live in Cypress. It is pretty far from the gulf--maybe 60 miles?? My DH is thinking we should board up the house. I think he is crazy--although you all may think I am crazy!! We went to 3 stores looking to buy groceries, but none had any water or canned goods. We found some soda, juice boxes and Gator-aide. Good luck to all of you. I hope we all stay safe!!

Sugar Land here. We are heading to my Aunt.... RITA's! As soon as school's close and DH is release from work (cross your fingers) we're loading with important documents and our valuables and heading north! We are surrounded by trees and have huge windows.
