Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

I didn't find it upthread and if this is the wrong place, please feel free to move. It just came over the local news that Seaworld and Aquatica will be closing early Thursday and be closed all day Friday.

Thank you. I truly appreciate your words. I am trying to be super prositive for my boys, but felt "safe" here expressing some frustration. Again, I should have known better.

I know we are safe here and will be well taken care of. I have told my boys this will probably be the only time they will experience a hurricane. We are from Indiana tornado warnings are the norm for us.... this not so much...

I am saying a prayer for all those being affected.
It's definitely ok to vent and to feel bad. :) hoping for the best for everyone!!!

We're supposed to land in MCO at 10:30 Fri night. With any luck and pixie dust, the storm would have passed by then and roads are passable. But, I honestly think that is just a dream at this point.......

That's exactly where I was.....I decided to change to Saturday morning, but I keep going back and forth wondering if I should have just stuck it out. Good luck.

UNCONFIRMED but shared for backup planning purposes - if you hear confirmation otherwise please correct me.

Since Weather Channel has just now said worse of it projected for Friday, coming on land not far from Orlando so this would make sense.

@ThemePark @Parkscope Managers and employees have been told not to come into work on friday [EPCOT].

Over on the "Official MNSSHP" thread posters are reporting the Disney is giving full refund for party tickets on both 10/6 (Thursday) and 10/7 (Friday).

I think people have to realize that there are thousands of guests onsite trying to find out information and the front desks are probably swamped with calls (and complaints). To expect "perfect or magical" customer service in a situation that is changing by the minute is unreasonable - and guest services communications may be interpreted differently by each guest. I have been at the front desk when the CM was being very calm and rational and the guest kept escalating out of control because he wasn't getting the response HE wanted to here. I've also seen guests been the reasonable one and the CM getting snippy. I never believe one side of the story because of this.

I also wonder if Disney is trying to put guests on upper floors to avoid potential flood issues - that much rain in such a short time will not be able to be absorbed into the ground quickly.

Considering that the guest was able to get a room at another resort I would move on from the situation and make the best out of a bad situation.

Exeptional customer service is easy when everything is going well. I get it everyone has bad days I been on the other end. I would have never dream of treating my guest that way. It is absurd that flights are being cancelled and people feel that Disney shouldn't try to accommodate the guest.

I was able to switch my flight from Friday morning to Saturday. We won't get in until late in the day, but I'll take it over cancelling our entire trip. For all of you in areas that are under hurricane warnings stay safe the next two days!

They aren't going to kick people out in the middle of the storm but they also can't create rooms out of thin air. All hotels in the Southern Florida area are going to be having issues for a couple of days if not a full week due to this storm. I'm sure the answer was a simple sorry we just don't have rooms.

Been watching this storm for past couple days since my oldest is in Navy and on the George Washington. They're currently on their way down to Haiti to assist with cleanup.
It's a nasty storm. Everyone stay safe!

Sharing due to the last line ..... not sure how strict they will be if you are holding a plane ticket.

Well, our flight from Tennessee was just canceled. Looks like we're going to Rent-A-Car to drive down and try to get some time in the parks Saturday and Sunday and then take a returning flight back on Monday. We already have a nonrefundable Hotel, rental car and return flight so we might as well get down there and try to do what we can.

Also to mention we were flying out of a smaller airport between Nashville and Atlanta (about 3 hours drive from home) bc the airfare was about $80 less per ticket and there are 5 of us... they didn't have any other flights we could have taken earlier. Just the one. So we are going to drive down there and rent the car out of that airport and then take the flight home we originally booked. (They were separate one way flights)

What part of...
  • A category 3 hurricane potentially hitting the state twice
  • The full evacuation of 1 full hotel and two other portions of resorts
  • Cruise ships now stuck out at sea
  • Evacuation of thousands of people from costal regions inland, many of whom also are looking for a place to stay
  • Facilitating the refunds, transfers of vacation dates, etc. for people not even in the state or country
...seems to imply that everything is going well?

Again, I'll apologize for Disney that they did not offer to help find you accommodations, and I'm glad that you did find something in time. But nothing about this situation, at the present moment, is the definition of "going well"

my brother is at the Poly and they are business as usual. I told him to check weather etc. and not just listen to CMs. He hasn't heard anything about the MNSSHP being canceled and he has tickets... the pools are closed because of thunder.

I think they are allowing you to cancel for full refund but not officially canceled [mnsshp]

he was told regarding hotels that if he's stranded [flight out canceled Saturday] he will have a room [Poly @ 80%].

they are mainly concerned with the people at Ft Wilderness. They have enough space in the resort hotels to move those folks for safety. Good to know.

I had set up an alert for our Friday morning flights and forgot to change it. Just got a notice that AA has cancelled the flight we were going to be on from Charlotte to MCO on Friday morning.

Same story here! The Southwest flight we were on originally for Thursday evening has been cancelled. I had already swapped to an earlier flight.

I just canceled my room at AofA. I was supposed to arrive tomorrow night from Long Island for a quick 4 day trip. Southwest canceled flight this afternoon. We have booked a new trip for January. Hoping no snowstorms here on LI ruin that trip. Everyone stay safe.
