Hurricane Matthew Closes WDW - Reopens Saturday, October 8th

TOLD YOU that the storm would bring out critters you don't usually see ..... keep those lunch boxes out of their sight!

This was yesterday in S FL ...

THANK YOU for this. I'm at work worrying about my daughter, who lives in Savannah and is a trauma ICU nurse so she's sleeping at the hospital. I'm happier for her to be at the hospital instead of at her home, but I'd MUCH rather her be at MY house 4 hours away from the coast. This video made me belly laugh, until I cried. I needed that!

Just heard guests at a bread & breakfast in St. Augustine are stranded due to storm surge flooding. Orlando is very lucky the winds did not reach 100mph, I do think Disney would have gotten some damage. There would be loss of power too. Instead of being upset over boxed meals and park closed, there could have been damage to guest cars and injuries. .. thankfully none of that happened.

I was trying to place where it was. We have family in the area. I'm more familiar with St. Johns than St. Augustine. I agree, no sympathy.

They were on MANDATORY evacuation and are just stupid. Sorry but they are. They wanted an adventure - so be it. My place is there, so I'm glued to all videos. I know the building, it's right on the bay across from the sea wall ......... stupid.

Casablanca Inn facing the bay ................... this is their view ...............and that to the left is the inlet to the ocean ......... stupid.

This might be stupid to ask but I am just so torn what to do...
We were supposed to come to universal Orlando Tomorrow,Sat, -Wednesday. (Driving to Naples and staying Wednesday - Sunday for family wedding)
Our only option now is to reschedule Orlando trip months from now (not ideal bc we still have to travel to Naples Fl for the wedding so 2 trips to Florida)
Or...
Get next available flight Monday morning and leave early thursday. We'd have 1/2 day Monday and full days T/W in parks.

Thing is weather doesn't even look great those days at least on weather channel app 7 day forecast ...anyone watching local news know what the weather should be like Monday-Wednesday in Orlando?!
I know you can never predict the weather but we are in a situation where we can cancel without penalty and I think that'd be worth doing if the days we are getting are going to be rainy anyway.
Omg I just can't believe the stress of this! I can't decide what we should do!!! Anyone care to share what they'd do in this situation?

The mandatory curfew for Orange County will be lifted at 2 p.m.;
however, citizens should remain vigilant. Significant hazards, including downed power lines, trees or other debris may not have been cleared.
While Public Works reports that the majority of traffic signals in Orange County are operational, however, extreme caution should be exercised.
Residents are asked to report concerns to 3-1-1

OMG....stupid is being polite. Wow...so glad rescue isn't putting their life on the line to respond

Our flight tomorrow got cancelled and the earliest we could get a flight out was Tuesday (and that was a maybe when I called) which is halfway through our trip. We decided to cancel :(

I'm sorry to hear that. That really sucks. Even though it was a short, direct flight even Sunday was sold-out when we tried to reschedule. Hope you can find another great time to reschedule.

Curfew is going to be lifted at 2pm today. I checked Open Table to see if anything is open today and Frontera Cocina, Raglan Road and Paradiso 37 are taking reservations for today. Not sure if they are actually open or if they didn't fix their Open Table availability.

I wouldn't count on them being open based on that...

In 2015 I was taking a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale. A week before that a hurricane crossed south Florida from the Gulf Coast to the east, so Ft. Lauderdale was hit after it crossed south Florida. I had a hotel reservation for the night before the cruise. I kept calling the hotel to assess the situation and the phone just rang and rang. I called the national reservation center and was told "Oh they're still taking reservations, so they must be open."

I show up and the place is shuttered with No Trespassing signs all over the doors. So while they were still taking reservations, they weren't open.

By no means is this a complaint just curious... Has anyone heard of them making adjustments to the DDP cost and/or benefits. I am kicking myself now as my exact logic was we are just coming for a shorter trip- we won't stay in our rooms much so we went with rooms at the Pop with Deluxe dining in one of our 2 rooms. Not being able to leave Pop for nearly 2 of our 4 days of deluxe DDP has certainly taken away any potential for getting a value out of it.
I think it's worth a shot to ask to downgrade to a different DDP.

It sounds like communication isn't very uniform. -- Captain Obvious here.

The people who have not ventured out are being saintly but impractical. If your resort hasn't made provisions to feed you go stretch you legs. Get some food somewhere. Watch out for downed power lines or other hazards like limbs hanging by threads. Wildlife, gators and water moccasins, could be out and about. If you get stopped by an officer be polite and explain that your resort hasn't made provisions to feed you and that you need to eat.

edit: never mind, it looks like in 5 mins. You are free move about.

Sorry if this has already been reported, but Chip and Dale are currently at the lobby at SSR. Lots of people in line for food.

....how was this not getting along? Didn't you see my wink? Nothing wrong with stating TT wasn't the "only" one. In fact, there were several across the State that called it. I don't see this as an argument? ??

No no, I meant our entire discussion. While the eye of a storm can pass over Orlando, and is colloquially considered to be a direct hit, it isn't actually a direct hit as defined by meteorology. I trust your TT statement is valid. I didn't think we were actually fighting. :-)

It's a full blown party at the Poly!! The lobby is hopping! Characters, music, games, free fruit...Bar is open and The drinks are strong! The ride out crew is awesome!!

The pools are almost clean and rumored to reopen this afternoon.

It's still a bit windy out there occasionally but nothing scary.

Hope everyone else is doing well and staying safe!

Btw - we didn't get a message that anything was open but we talked to a CM from our balcony who told us that things were open!

OT - Forecast for Saturday thru Tuesday is dry, cooler, and less humid. Yay! :yay:
It's not well known, but in a humid area like Florida, the weather *behind* a tropical storm is normally a welcome respite from the humidity, as well as being cooler than usual. (I still remember arriving at WDW the morning of 9/14/01 in Tropical Storm Gabrielle, when virtually all of Epcot was deserted, for at least two reasons.)

I'd still go.

Looking at the radar, all rain bands are well north of Orlando. Highest wind gust over the last 60 minutes at my house, 10 mi. due north of MK, is 14mph.

Keep the pictures coming. Very few of you on site friends post pics of your situations good or bad. We want pictures.
really nothing to show. non-event here at BWV. A lot of rain and wind overnight but we slept through it all. no flooding, no flying debris. rain/winds mainly stopped around 11a. I know it could have been much worse so I am not dissing it. Really glad it was all we got.

Wow! We planned on driving down from TN for a 10/7-10/16 CBR stay. Not having ever experienced Hurricane conditions and working long hours the past several days with limited access to the news, etc; I didn't realize the full extent at first. Seeing your 14yr old daughter cry over the delay of a trip she's been excited about for a year isn't easy. It can make you contemplate some crazy, irresponsible measures. After we officially canceled our check in to arrive later in the weekend, I was glued to the Weather Channel all night. All I thought about was being so thankful we were home safe, and prayers/concern for the locals and those already there.

see above. No worries your arrival later this weekend.

Just came down to the Pop lobby. The line to check in is out the door. The conceriege line is probably 50 deep.

there is a line to check into the resort? How is that possible with a curfew in effect and all airlines grounded in Orlando?

Some posters yesterday were saying after a hurricane there will be extended loss of cell service in many cases. Is anybody in Orlando/at Disney experiencing that right now?

all good for cell and data service. That would have only happened if there were power outages or cell tower failures. Winds were not strong enough for any damage in this area.

I just spoke to a couple people on the phone at Disney and they said it's basically just rain and we are good ton drive in there tonight. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

This would depend on what route you are taking. I95 may have some debris on it since it is closer to the coast. But in Disney, we got very little damage with winds not going above 40mph for the most part.
