Hurricane Jeanne- We are back

Oh, Safetymom, I'm so sorry about the house damage! :( I'm glad to hear you're home safely and I hope this will be the last hurricane that ever damages your home.

Hugs to all Dis' wet and weary Floridians! All my hopes for much better days ahead are with you.

My brother owns a homebuilding business in Illinois, and one of his workers' father owns a home in Sebring Florida. The father paid for my brother and 5 of his guys to come to Sebring (they got there on Thursday) and fix the damage to his roof from the last few hurricanes. They completed the work on the roof on Saturday morning and then were going to come home today (Sunday), but the hurricane kept them there and in fact they are still there and won't be home until after they fix the roof...again. Luckily they were ok, they were stayng at the Inn on the Lake and I guess the building held up pretty good, but they said they were scared the whole night as the hurricane passed right over them.

My in-laws also live in Sebring. The eye of Jeanne was right over them yesterday. They lost their pool cage and some roofing. They are without power also. They've been hit by 3 of 4 of the hurricanes, Jeanne being the worst. I know exactly where Inn on the Lake is - it's a very old sturdy building - made of some type of rock from the looks of it. I'm glad your brother and company are OK. My in-laws are also OK. We were supposed to go there on Thurs for 3 nights before heading to Disney. Instead, I altered our plans and got a hotel at Disney for the 3 nights and will invite my in-laws to come with us (if they will - most likely they won't leave their house if they're still without power). At least we can visit them, even if it's without power. And Safety mom - hang in there! I'm so sorry to hear about all the damage you sustained.

Mickey's Sister, we used to go to the Easter Sunrise service at the Observatory. It is a beautiful place. Yes the Point used to always flood. I lived in Glenshaw, North of Pittsburgh.

After my husband died and my last child graduated from high school I decided it was time for a new location.

Still think I made the right decision to move here. I didn't find the summer that bad with having A/C. I didn't have that in PA.

Well I am off to MK now. I think I need a trip to the wonderful world of Disney. :)

Thanks for always looking out for us Safetymom!!! So sorry about your storm damage  Hopefully with a little Pixie Dust (and alot of blue tarps!) you'll be back up and running again soon! princess:

How was Disneyland? Didn't I read in another post that you had to cut your trip short to get home for Jeanne? :listen:

I didn't make it to the park because I found a great resource.

Operation Blue Roof is coming to my house to put tarps up on the roof. I am thrilled because I couldn't get up there and do it.

So I will hit the parks tomorrow.

Yes I did have to cut my Disneyland vacation short to be here for the hurricane. Disneyland was great, most of the rides were a walk on. But WDW is still my favorite.

My daughter had never been to DL so it was fun watching her enjoy the parks. Nice to see the vision that Walt Disney had for Disneyland.

That's Great about 'Operation Blue Tarp'. I couldn't get on my roof either. I hope things continue to look up for you. Still sending lots of pixie dust!!!:wizard:

safety mom, you beat me too it, I just read your post about needing a blue tarp (I worked yesterday and wasent online) and was getting info together for corp of engineers, and you had it! Good work!
They came out very quickly. (actually they came to my house and asked if they could put one on, i was so blessed, being a nurse i was too busy to figure out how bad my house on top really was, no leaks yet though!) The corp of engineers were Very nice and professional.
My prayers are with you.
Remember we will get through this! We will look back on all of this as a time we were strenghthend!
Good luck to you safetymom and all of my floridian friends at DIS!!!:earsgirl:
