They just had a reporter on the news at Vero Beach. The winds are up to 50 mph and that's just the outer bands. The outer banks are closed as of 3pm to all traffic. Roads are deadlocked- alot of people waited until the last minute on this one. WDW is going to be on the bad side of this storm's track, with weather similar to what came thru with Hurricane Charley. The storm has only turned a little north, much less than expected and the center of the storm is picking up some more steam and will be a Cat 3 by the time the eye makes landfall.

Keep Florida in your prayers.

My mom has a house in Vero Beach. She was lucky during Frances- minor damage but her development sustained extensive damage. My son is in St. Augustine at college- they.ve been evacuated. Thanks for your update as we hadn,t heard that report. After Frances it took my parents 2 weeks to find out what happened to their home because many of the residents could not return right away- no power. If you hear any info from Vero or St. Augustine I'd be grateful if you would post. We are concernned about my son and my parent's house and our many friends in those areas. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all Fla. residents. Thanks

Prayers definitely going out to all in FL. I spoke with my uncle in Sebastian this morning and at that time the winds were 35-40 mph and it was raining. He said it looks like a war zone around there. He's only 10 min from Vero Beach. He told me trash in his neighborhood hasn't been picked up in almost 2 weeks. There are mattresses, roof shingles, furniture, tree branches etc lining the neighborhood and he's afraid Jeanne's winds will pick these all up. My uncle also told me he waited 45 min in line for gas and an hour in line for bottled water and ice earlier this week. He was without electricity for 10 days after the last hurricane.
Then I called my aunt in Flagler Beach which is about midway between Daytona and St Augustine. As I was on the phone with her (around noon), I could hear sirens in the background. Then I heard police and fire officials speaking on a bullhorn. They were saying things like "mandatory evacuations", "noone can use the bridge after 3 pm", "curfew at 6 pm" and "no 911 emergency calls would be responded to after 9 pm" ! My aunt sounded very stressed but she told me she had no plans to evacuate. I'm very concerned about my relatives & friends in FL. Hearing those emergency personnel on the bullhorn really hit me. Thoughts are with all those in FL.

One of my best friends works for Volusia County and he will be manning an evacuation site (school) tonight for those with special needs and the elderly.

I think this hurricane is going to pack a whallop.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone there!

Stay safe lightningcoach!! Our prayers are with you. Coming down to WDW in Nov. if there aren't anymorw hurricanes.

I just checked the forecast at weather.com for Vero tonight and they are predicting sustained winds of over 100 mph and gusts up to 125 mph.

To check it yourself, go to weather.com and type in Vero Beach. Select the detailed forecast or the hourly forecast.

It sounds worse than Frances.

Praying now for all those in this storm's path. We are supposed to go down in three weeks to a wedding in Cocoa Beach that's already been relocated once d/t Frances (or was it Charley...losing track of all of them). We feel so bad for those whose lives have been disrupted (and worse) these last few weeks.
