Hurricane Irma?

I believe so. From what I remember there were insanely long lines at some values and moderate resorts. Disorganization may have also played a factor. Poly had at least 2 lunch box locations and all restaurants running solid. Ohana went to a buffet for dinner, good as usual.

Omg and I've read all the pages!! They just move so fast I must have missed it. Thank you!! I've been so worried about them bless them. I couldn't help picturing them all just out on the savannah by themselves in the weather. I'm glad they've got spaces to go. Especially the giraffes being so high up and exposed to it all.
Oops, that is b cause it was a DIFFERENT thread. d'oh!

Been all over the internet all day, and no end of people enjoying the opportunity to judge others.

It's the official sport of the internet!

Have you checked? Someone I know just got cancelled for Tuesday 10:30 on southwest.

My Atlanta flight for the 6:40am on Southwest on the 12th was cancelled. I went to rebook on Wednesday the 13th and all direct flights were sold out already. So I'm rebooked for Thursday, Sept. 14th.

The hurricane is expected to be in our area on Monday/Tuesday.

Now I need to decide if I'm going to cancel my flights altogether and just drive down on the 13th. It all depends on the damage and what the gas situation looks like.
I haven't called DVC Member Services yet to change my dates - I've already done that once - cancelling my first night of 9/11. Plus I need to cancel my 9/12 MNSSHP ticket and get a refund on that.

Stay safe everyone!

Thank you!! Well, I say thank you, it's 1am and I'm still up going through these threads haha. But it will help put my mind at ease so thank you. Animals, especially wild ones don't have the same warnings as we do nor the same resources, so many will unfortunately end up suffering.

I have followed this thread for all 243 pages and many others actually for months now, but decided to bite the bullet and finally make an account. Does anyone know what happens to the safari animals at Animal Kingdom? Are they just left out on the safari to their own devices or will they have been rounded up somewhere safely inside?

Also just a note on UK guests. We're supposed to be flying in on the 19th, and I doubt even if I wanted to cancel I would get my money back. I know that British Airways weren't offering refunds for people for most of this week. Their premise was "If we're taking a flight and you're not on it that's your problem because there hasn't been an official warning"

It costs thousands of pounds for a family to fly out to Orlando from the UK and with no way of getting a refund or exchange I can see why people chose to go. I also have friends who live in Florida and I just hope that everyone in the path of this is safe and well.
All the Animal Kingdom animals are corralled and put indoors. They all have special individual enclosures and will all be cared for.
I also arrive on the 19th and hope all is good there .

Just a heads up, a tornado apparently has been sighted in Broward County...granted, it's a ways from Orange County, but some of the effects of the hurricane are starting to be felt in Florida.
Stay safe everyone.

And right after the storm blows through? There won't be debris? Downed power lines?
Power lines are underground at Disney, so no on that one. Debris probably, but we all hope for minimal damage in all of Florida and wherever else Irma decides to show her face.

EMS, Fire and Police are usually restricted from responding when SUSTAINED winds reach a certain level. Most municipalities in Florida set that at 40mph, although some go up to 45 and even 50. Once the winds die down below those levels, units do respond regardless of debris.

To those reporting SW cancellations for next Tuesday: How are you receiving them? Email? Where are you flying out of?

Hi Speri! I created an account just to reply to you. :) I got an email this morning letting me know my Tuesday HOU -> MCO was cancelled. My original date was 10-16, pushed back 2 days, thought it was safe, but.... I've managed to push back to the 14th (SW had zero availability for a Wed departure, which could either mean sold out already or they aren't flying?), and also managed to rearrange my BWI to an AoA (because BWI had no availability), though I'm still working diligently on getting BWI back, or maybe YC, BC. I can dream, lol. I'm shocked to hear that some SW have not been cancelled yet, but I hope it sticks and you make that flight!

I kind of thought by now, there would be something, you know - light wind or rain or something, but it's calm as anything out there. At the rate we're going my 4-year old will have eaten our supply of snacks before the hurricane even reaches us.
It's still way far away. Hasn't even hit the keys yet. By "hit" I'm talking the eye wall. That's why I get frustrated when people say the hurricane "hit" Orlando.

calm before the storm... the Keys are getting hit right now with all of the outer bands and it's heading north

I'm signed up to receive text notifications from Southwest. I have also been checking their website constantly which is how I learned the 9/12 flight I was going to take was cancelled - I didn't get the text until the afternoon at which point all but one of the direct flights out of Atlanta to Orlando were sold out for Thursday 9/14. Wed. 9/13 was already sold out completely the day before when my original Monday flight was cancelled.

I was so thankful I looked on their website rather than rely totally on the text notification. I looked at other airlines to try and arrive on 9/13 but they were all a much higher cost than I was willing to pay.

"Regardless of debris." Putting those responding at risk.
