Hurricane Irma?

MCO's twitter page will probably have the most up to date info in the coming days.
Problem here is their Twitter page is the one that first posted the closure last night. So maybe not the best place to check

Bummer. I just checked and flying out of my airport I still see available flights throughout the day on Saturday to MCO. No cancellations. I guess I would start by calling Southwest. I'm really sorry for your health situation above all. I'm intimately familiar with the cancer world. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. I hope your trip works out.

This is extremely generous and kind. Thanks for bringing some Disney Magic to this thread.

I would be on the phone with Frontier to see how they can accommodate you.
Yes, please call and check directly with airlines based on that error last night related to MCO shut down. That may mean flights that had been canceled are not

supposed to drive down on Wednesday from Ohio. would you wait until Thursday or Friday to drive if you were me?
I would still drive on Wednesday at this time, baring significant damage beyond the current projections. I would keep an alternate plan in mind for certain.

Anyone know how the grocery stores are doing in the Orlando area? Even if Irma bypasses Florida and goes out east into the Atlantic (as I think we want as little landfall as possible), I assume grocery stores might be stripped of goods.

We are supposed to arrive on the 17th and had a case of water in our Garden Grocer delivery... maybe Garden Grocer won't have resources to fulfill our order. Perhaps we should pack granola bars in our luggage (in case Disney is fine, but areas surrounding are out of stock?).

The news is only showing Miami shelves being empty on TV. Right now, we are hoping this all goes smoother than expected and our trip won't have to be cancelled.
There are some locals posting in these two threads about conditions around Orlando...water is almost non existent and both gas and non perishables are very hard to find.

They should be able to be restocked immediately. That said, if there is any long lasting power outages or damage to structures that changes things but if it's just to replenish supplies bought during this week, with everything back to operating normal next week you'll be fine

Can't get through to MCO right now, but here it's saying there is a Ground Stop because of flight volume. I'm not a flyer usual...so someone help me out here...will that our flight in tomorrow at 6:05 IF it is true?

A ground stop is a temporary halting of incoming and outgoing flights due to weather, traffic, etc. It's not the same as a closure.

A ground stop today is only temporary. As soon as they are able, air traffic control will allow planes to land and take off again.

We are scheduled to fly out Saturday at 5:20pm on Frontier from MCO. Should we wait and see or do something now? If so, what do we do?? Any help is appreciated!

Your situation is a very tough call, given your flight departure is scheduled during the critical period when Irma might be starting or is in the process of turning northward. In that scenario, depending on where the storm is and the timing of the turn it is possible MCO might close and/or certain flights might be cancelled. My gut is flight cancellations will be the first thing to happen (the airlines err on the side of caution). That would suggest wait and see is still the presently optimal strategy, but if you are nervous about being able to rebook, you may want to contact Frontier now. Again, there is no perfect solution due to the uncertainty of where the storm is going to go.

Their twitter page didn't post it though. It was twitter that said it was unconfirmed when the notice was still on the website so I second the above, the twitter feeds of MCO, Disney and other agencies will most likely be the most current. NOT however the twitter feeds of news sites.

My local meteorologist just posted this:
*Concerning Orlando and Disney World, Sunday will be very wet and windy, but for now it looks like the highest impact will be a little east of there. The weather will improve greatly Monday.

May I ask where your meterorologist is located? Are they near Orlando or out of state? I SOOO want to believe them but where they are located will play into my decision. We are scheduled to fly to Orlando tomorrow afternoon.

Oh, I apologize. The person you quoted, to whom you said you weren't directing your reply, was responding to me. So I assumed it was about the water topic I brought up. Sorry for my confusion.

No worries. I didn't see who she was responding to I just didn't want Angie to think I was dismissing her good ideas. Because they are good ideas.

I apologize that probably came across As passive aggressive. That's great if you can have that stuff prepared. I was just saying if someone doesn't just hold your nose you will never know the difference. Lol.

The MCO website is where the closure was first posted. The twitter page was saying that info was not confirmed.

Oh, ok. Someone posted a link from their phone. I thought it was from Twitter but I think it may have been from the MCO App instead. My mistake.

Totally makes sense. No worries at all! :)

Just a thought and it may have already been stated but how much does the cast member contribute to the magic of your trip? People working at WDW may simply not be able to go to work.

First time Disney family here... five kids 1, 3, 6, 10, and 12, two parents. I have been following this thread closely trying to come to a decision. As of now, we are still going.

We fly in to MCO Friday afternoon. Supposedly, our rental vehicle should have a full tank of gas when we arrive. We shall see about that.
We are staying at WBC. I have three suitcases full of water, non-perishables, flashlights, lanterns, packs of cards, and coloring books. We are prepared to stay in our room Sunday and Monday. We extended the end of our vacation by about 3.5 days in the hope of making up for stormy days lost. Our trip now extends to Wed the 20th.

I hope this is the right call. We would have lost thousands rescheduling, but extended for only about $550. I'm glued to the weather channel.

I would call the rental company to make sure they have cars. I've heard reports of in the FLorida Keys and southern areas of cars being booked for evacuees. Not sure if this would be true for the Orlando area and if you have a reservation, I'm sure they will have one available but if it was me, I would call ahead just to double check and make sure.

Seems like 5 tomorrow is still the (un)Magic time. They'll probably confirm it later today.

Any thoughts about Monday? I know it's too soon to really tell. We have Chef Mickey's reservations for dinner that I'm hoping would still be okay.

Yes, it is too soon to tell. No one is going to know what the situation on Monday will be until sometime late Saturday/Sunday morning at the earliest. If a hurricane warning gets issued for Orlando around that time, IMHO your ressie may be at risk.

WDW already has made preparations in this dept. CM have been asked to sign up for shifts to serve guests at hotels. If a curfew in Orlando/Kissimmee is issued then the parks MIGHT close but for resorts CM have already been assigned spots and rooms to stay
