HURRICANE INFORMATION (AUGUST 15, 2004): All parks except TL are OPEN

Just make sure he doesn't go in Stormalong Bay, he may offend many people on the board!

I just wanted to say Good Luck to everyone leaving tomorrow. I hope things go well and have fun anyway.

Hey everyone
Charlie was just upgraded to a catagory 2 with 105 mph winds. They even said that he may be a catagory 3 by the timeit hits fla.

This is not what I wanted to hear....we will be leaving PA tomorrow morning, driving to Savannah and spending the night. I have been following the weather channel, but can anyone tell me if we can expect anything other than lots of rain on our trip? How far do hurricaines come inland? My 9 year old is very worried! Me,too!

I was curious if any CMs read the board and if you could tell us what you are being told regarding Charlie preparations? Thanks!

Phantom, Hillsborough County schools will not be open tomorrow. They announced it just a little while ago. Citrus, Hernando, Pinellas and Pasco will also be closed.

I figured Hillsborough would be closed as Tampa is supposed to be right in the eye. I posted around noon and they hadn't announced it yet.

My sons are still scheduled to work Friday and Saturday so at least Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure haven't announced any closures yet. We shall see though. I'll know more when I pick them up from work tonight.

Question about #3 - do you mean no new PS for restaurants at resorts, or no new reservations for resorts?

I am confused about that one to. I think maybe it means the restaurants because they will have to worry about people on site getting food? then it could be about the resort because people may have to stay longer due to flights being canceled or delayed.

Kae

#3 just means no new Priority Seating request are being taken for the restaurants at the resorts.

Believe me, Disney WILL take care of you. We were there on 9/11, and were totally amazed at how well-trained the CM's were. It was like clockwork.

Wishing everyone the best.

Taximom this hurricane will go right across fla. It will lesson as it goes across land but it will still be at least a 1. sorry

Great Post. Goodluck to all that will be in FL during this time.

Kae

I agree, Disney will keep you welll informed of everything including what to do, park closures, etc...

When we were there during Erin in 95, they slipped us a paper under our door at the Poly telling us the times the parks would be closing, and it had some helpful hints. The one thing that stood out to me was to keep the curtain drawn over the sliding glass door in case of breakage.

CM s might be too busy right now so I am bumping myself.

New Update from allearsnet.com:

All four theme parks will offer Extra Magic Hour to Resort Guests beginning at 8am on August 13. World Showcase at Epcot will open at 10am. Visit the parks early as that will be the best part of the day weather-wise. (3:00pm 8/12)

Good luck to everyone down there--hope Charley weakens quickly, that would be the best for everyone! We just had Bonnie hit up here--our area was lucky because it went to the East of us, and it was just a tropical storm but is dumping lots of rain.

To anyone traveling down the East Coast, please be careful as both these storms will be heading up that way and it will be raining a lot. That makes for tough driving.

Cathy

Looking at the latest forecast track, it looks like if Charley does indeed take that path, that the weather will start to detereorate during the afternoon, with the worst of it being during the evening and overnight.

Going along with that forecast, Disney's actions make sense. Cancelling evening activities, opening the parks earlier in the morning. I guess they are preparing to close the parks early tomorrow if need be.

My guess is that Tinker Bell will be taking the night off tomorrow evening!!! :earseek:

I'm just hoping and praying I can get there in order to be able to get instructions!!! We fly out tomorrow at 8:40 (hopefully). Just my luck. Looks like E-night will be a tad wet!!
