I have been feeling quite a bit sad over the fact that I am going down to WDW to have a great time when so many people continue to suffer in the aftermath of a terrible hurricane. And I came up with this idea:
Since my mother and I are driving, I thought we could pack the extra empty space in our car with things like diapers, bottled water, Boost, mosquito coils and other needed items and take them down with us.
Then I wondered: hey, maybe Disney has a program in place to collect donations. So I called the resort where I'm going to be staying, and although the CM I spoke with didn't know anything, she put me through to Community Relations.
Community Relations (I think the castmember's name was Lori)told me that, yes, the CMs are having a food drive. That if I take my food to the resort, the cast members there would be glad to take it. And they'll also take things like diapers.
IMPORTANT: The drive is scheduled to run through AUGUST 31. She didn't know if they would extend it past that.
So those of you who are driving to WDW and arriving on or before 31 August, if you want to make a donation, this is a good way to help folks out. Put a couple of bags of non-perishable groceries, or some diapers, or some bottled water in any of the spare nooks and crannies of your car and hand it over to the CMs at your resort.
Please remember, the food drive only officially runs to the end of August.
Since my mom and I won't be arriving until 1 September, this won't help us much (unless they extend it). I'm going to contact the Red Cross and see if they have a collection point anywhere near WDW.
So, if like me, you are wanting help and going to be arriving in a car on or before the 31 August, you might want to pack a little extra food or diapers to help out.
