Just out of curiosity, what do the people staying in the cabins (or campground for that matter) do in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm? Is there a place they send you?

Again, just hypothetical!:thumbsup2

We were there when Charley came through, they put everyone in the French Quarters but you would have to leave all your stuff outside (camper, golf cart) For me it was better to go home 3 1/2 hours away with no storm at home and no chance of all me stuff getting destroyed in a parking lot.

Funny thing, Lisa and I were there at the same time. we didn't have a camper yet so we were staying in the cabins. I know some like port orleans but, I found it several steps down from the cabins. We actually booked ours a day or so before it hit. I figured Disney with underground utilities would weather the storm better than the beach. No loss of power and all the comforts of home, it was way better than being home.:lmao:

We were tent camping at FW in 1992 when it was VERY unclear in the early stages where Andrew would go. We got flyers dropped off at our campsite a couple times a day with updates on safety procedures. Never got to the point where we learned where they would send us if the hurricane had headed for Orlando rather than Homestead.

We were there in 2001 the weekend just after the 9/11 attack. A tropical storm came thru and we were evacuated to Dixie Landings. We took the MH to DL & left the golf cart on the trailer in the parking lot & prayed. It was okay - but my poor cats (that I snuck into the hotel room) cried all night long because they were in an unfamiliar surrounding. We should have just slept in the MH in the parking lot.

In the late 90's my MIL & FIL stayed for 2 months at FtW & were evacuated twice to the Contemporary! They gave them meal vouchers & passes for extra days at FtW. They certainly don't do THAT anymore!!

I assume you're mainly talking about the cabins and you have your answer, but for me with a trailer in all those "VERY TALL" and skinny pine trees I'm out of there just from fear of damage from a falling tree. It just isn't worth the risk and possible hassle if something were to happen.

Larry--- same MIL & FIL (as in post b-4 yours), same camping trip...pre-tropical storm. Pine limb falls and rips through the awning. No comp from FtW!! My FIL pointed this limb out to a loop attendant one day & went to the front desk the next day & nothing was done. The wind took it down...not a Fort CM... so no compensation. I've seen FtW after many T.S.'s & 3 hurricanes. When strong storms hit, limbs come flying to the ground in abundance. It's best to be anywhere but FtW.

Yeah I'm getting a little nervous now. I've never been in any kind of TS or hurricane and now here we sit in Ft. Wilderness. Well this vacation is certainly exciting!

We are staying at the cabins not a camper or a tent.... so would we just stay there should we run into problems??

I'd stay and if WDW gets worried they will move you to one of the resorts. If you're driving your own car make sure you have good comprehensive coverage since besides water flying debris is abundant during a hurricane.

update? I'm in Clearwater right now and driving to Gainesville tomorrow to go back to school. Looks like it's going to cross back over the state.

How windy is it there? My friends at UCF said it's not bad at all over there.

Has there been a lot of rain?
