Hello Golf Coast Texans!!

Be safe and get the heck out of Dodge :::Que crisis music::::

We are ready for you here in Dallas / Fort Worth.

Cars are full of gas, sheets are clean and hunkering supplies are stocked!

Be safe and careful! I'll keep all of you in my prayers!

Actually, a suburb called Cypress, on the northwest side - 70 miles from the coast.

Businesses and schools are all shutdown. Some stores remain open, but staples like bread, water, canned foods low or gone.

Many gas stations have run out of gas entirely, so we are not driving anywhere to conserve the fuel. After Rita (our last big storm) the biggest problem was availability. The storm had left us virtually untouched, but no gas was available, especially in those areas without power.

I stocked up earlier in the week: bottled water, tuna, and, I kid you not, 17 pounds of chocolate. (Priorities, don't cha know!).

The actual storm is expected around midnight, but this storm is a little different in that it has a huge "eye" and is massive, creating an early and abnormally large storm surge. The island and shore communities (Galveston and Kemah) are taking a lot of water already - roads have been under water for a couple of hours, and they are expecting possibly another 20 feet tonight. Hopefully, hopefully, this storm will blow itself apart quickly, as its center is not well defined.

Good luck to all impacted!

I am holding down the fort in the Spring area (about 65 miles due north of Houston). If I can figure out how to hunker down, then I'll do that as well.

We are stocked and prepared. As an essential public works employee leaving is not really an option for me (ditto for DW for the same reason), although we would leave if we did not feel safe enough where we are.

As I write this the coastal areas are taking a lot of water, more than I think they expected. This storm is likely to be worse than the ones who don't evacuate can imagine for some areas, I hope they all get out. My oldest lives much closer to the coast and she pulled back to our location.

I am loading up my IPod to keep entertained during the likely extended power outage.

I'm also considering ruinning over to Wal-Mart and running around in a panic for a while just to work off the extra stress.

Thanks for the concern!

Thoughts and prayers are with you in TX. Stay Safe!!!

As I watch today on the news, the people in the areas that will be effected are in my thoughts and I am wishing you the best...

My Neice and her family arrived this afternoon from outside of Houston. She, her DH and 4 kiddos and two in laws will stay here, safe and sound in Fort Worth, until the danger is passed.

The kids are camping in the living room tonight. All adults will get a bed or an air matress. The house is crowded but I have Disney DVD's, lots Chocolate and a couple of cases of beer and wine.

I guess the only thing left to do is have a BBQ before it starts to rain...

Stay safe Costal Texans!!

Talked with my friend who has a beach house on Crystal Beach, he is safe in Houston, but he said the beach house is expected to be history.

We just got power back on Monday from Gustav. We are feeling tropical storm winds and rain since about 2 am this morning. Good LUck and be safe.

My friend also has a beach house, but in Galveston, and she said her family really isn't expecting it to be there (or at least not fully there) when they go back.

My dad, stepmom and 2 little brothers live in Houston and my dad spent all night boarding up the house so I suppose they are officially "hunkering" now haha. I go to school in New Orleans and had to evacuate last week because of Gustav. It's a bit ironic that they may now be evacuating to NOLA, or elsewhere, if they lose power over there. We're all just hoping for the best.

My thoughts and prayers are with anyone else in Texas dealing with this right now. I know it really stinks

Hope everyone stays safe, and your homes are spared. When it's done making a mess there, the left overs are expected to arrive in Oklahoma late Saturday into Sunday, where we could get 6"-8" of rain.
