It's no secret from my screen name who my favorite princess is. ;)

Even though I pretty much knew what the answer would be I asked tons of cast member while on my trip to WDW a couple of weeks ago if they knew where I could get Hunchback or Esmeralda merchandise. The answers were shockingly inconsistent, but a few cast members told me that they think Esmeralda merchandise might get re-released because it is supposed to be the next one to be made into a Broadway play!!!

Sorry if this is old news, but I had no idea Hunchback was next. Has anyyone heard more about this? I can't imagine how incredible it would be on Broadway. I am so there. :)

you are correct....I just hope that american audiences can handle the changes in it (already was "on broadway" in germany)

Hunchback is in my top five favorite Disney films. I'd love to see it on broadway. The music is perhaps the best of any Disney movie overall (the score, not necessarily the lyrics in the pieces with words).

The Hunchback is in my Top 3 Disney Films list! Oh how I miss: The Hunchback of Notre Dame - A Musical Adventure from Hollywood Studios.

Amanda -- Maybe there will be a limited release of some merchandise (at least a pin or two) come next year because it will be the 15th anniversary of the film's release.

As far as Der Glockner goes (the 'Broadway' version of the musical that played to great acclaim in Germany), yes, the story was closer to the book. It follows the structure of the film of course and expands on a lot of the score and adds some great new songs, but it definitely is darker, particularly the second half.

I highly recommend you try to get a listen to the soundtrack! I do not speak a word of German, however if you love the American version (like I do) you'll really enjoy the CD and will be able to follow along with the original songs (and get the intent of the new ones!)

Jedi -- Is there any concrete word on this actually finally reaching the US? Stephen Schwartz has expressed his hope that it would, some day, but I'd love a glimmer of hope that its ACTUALLY in the works!

Finally a fellow Hunchback fan, Ive watch that film 6 times when it came out, and I was only 3 years old and had a Esmerlda doll and everything, I totally think they need to do a Disney Diamond release of the film.

The CMs at WDW seemed to think that the merchandise did not do well because the film was "darker" than parents usually wanted from a Disney movie. Kids were apparently scared of it.

I recently re-watched it, right after having seen The Princess and the Frog for the first time. There is simply no comparison (in my opinion.) I liked The Princess and the Frog, and the songs were cute and all, but Hunchback is so well done.

In the book version, doesn't Quasi die with Esmeralda?

So exciting news! According to StitchKingdom (need to find the link again), HunchbackOfNotreDameOnBroadway.com and HunchbackOnTour.com domain names were registered by Disney Theatrical recently. That doesn't promise anything, especially since they registered a ton of others, everything from Pirates and Nightmare Before Christmas to Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion. But... out of all of those, Hunchback already has a book, score and has been staged... so maybe a glimmer of hope that the musical will finally see the light of day in North America!
