Hummus...

I love hummus wrapped in pita bread with pieces of onion...yummy! I also break pita bread apart, toast it, then slather hummus on it.

I've even gone so far as to put it on toast.

You could probably find a lot of recipe suggestions via google.

me too! I like high fiber syrian, sprayed with olive oil pam and broiled (both sides)till nice &brown.

spread 1/4 cup of hummus(or Baba ganoush) on each, throw on some thinly sliced red onion,as much as you want and CRUNCH AWAY!!!

I think I know what lunch is today....:goofy:

Like anything else, it depends on how it's prepared and how much of it you eat. I've seen some hummus that's served swimming in olive oil. While olive oil has certain health benefits nobody should have their food bathed in it.

Assuming you're talking about a more traditional, slightly less oily, hummus, then a cup of hummus has about 435 calories and 25 grams of fat. It's unlikely that anyone is going to eat a cup of hummus at one sitting, but it's very likely that you'll eat more than the two tablespoon serving size that's on the side of most containers.

If you use it to replace a protein source in a meal it can be a healthy alternative. 1/2 cup of traditional hummus would fill a sandwich and be about 215 calories and 12.5 grams of fat.

So....it's not bad as a condiment or occasional meat alternative, and it has many health benefits, but it's not very low fat.

You can also warm it and use it as a sauce with pasta (possibly thin it out a bit depending on your hummus). I have not tried this yet.

I usually just toast up a bunch of pita wedges and eat it as a dip. DD likes to take it to school for lunch like this. I will also use it on sandwiches or wraps like other posters.

If you make your own hummus, you might also like to make falafel. My kids like this too and it's nearly the same recipe.

I like hummus (scallion is a fave), but some of the commercial brands are VERY high in sodium.

Thank you for posting recipes, I might give them a try. :goodvibes

oh my summer sandwich- hummus on very grainy bread- sliced cuccumbers, tomatoes, thin red onion carrots and sprouts. (and I am a meat and potatoes girl- but something about that sandwich sings to me!)

We make our own hummus and I could definitely eat more than a cup of it. I like my hummus naked, all alone on a pita bed.

Roasted garlic hummus is my favorite.

I actually have original hummus for a snack today. Since I am on Weight Watchers right now, I have mini peppers (bought a bid bag at BJs). They taste delicious with the hummus.

Should we start a support group? I am totally addicted to Sabra hummus!

Not to feed into the addiction, but Sam's has a huge container of it and it's soo much cheaper than the small containers at the grocery store. Just giving some info...:rolleyes1

Ok guys...all this talk of hummus made me go out and buy the sesame tahini and roasted red peppers I need to make it.

Will be making it this afternoon and hopefully not eating it all in one sitting!

If interested, I just put the following in a food processor/blender and voila!

1 can chickpeas
1 small jar roasted red peppers..drained
1 tsp sesame tahini
drizzle olive oil
salt and pepper
fresh lemon.

I don't really measure...just add more of what you like as you test it.

I use it as a spread on sandwiches. I find it's best on hearty, oaty-grainy breads with piles of veggies. Roasted red pepper hummus is my fave!

YUP!! Really good!! At Columbia Harbor House in the MK, they have a delicious sandwich with hummus and broccoli slaw....YUM!!

What's broccoli slaw? Does anyone have a recipe? I really need something to go with my lumpy hummus. :)

I don't have a recipe from scratch, but in our local grocery stores, they sell the bags of broccoli slaw (shredded broccoli, carrots, etc.). I buy that and then add refrigerated cole slaw dressing, like I would do with regular cole slaw. It's delicious and easy. I like it better that way to prepare, you can prepare it fresh as you use it.

That is my favorite brand - roasted red pepper...yum!

everything i use it on has already been said, but roasted red pepper sabra is my favorite!

My name is Tarheel Tink and I'm a Hummus addict. :guilty:Sabra's roasted red pepper must have crack in it! I love it on whole wheat crackers, spread for a wrap or sandwich or with veggies to dip in. I toss peperoncini slices or pickled jalapeno slices in it also. I'm going to try the recipe(s)!

The first step is admitting you have an addiction. The second step is removing all of your hummus from your refrigerator...go ahead and slide it on over to me and I'll be sure it gets destroyed immediately. :rolleyes1

I like to make hummus, but I mostly buy the Garden Fresh Gourmet brand. They have such a great variety and I have enjoyed all of them (some more than others ... the Greek, Red Pepper, and Cilantro are my favorites! They also have Garlic, plain, Pine Nut ... I don't know if I'm missing any).

I LOVE to eat it with Geelry's Rice that I make from the Boma recipe, Moroccan vegetables, pita ... almost like being at Boma, but I'd dump my hummus in a second if it meant I could eat at Boma instead!

Hey, get in line! ;)

LOL, who knew such a simple question would be so popular?!

Yes, I tried the Sabra brand regular hummus and liked it. I think I will try the roasted pepper next. I looked at the calories - 2 tablespoons is 10 calories, as opposed to peanut butter, which is 200 calories for 2 tablespoons :scared1: Let's just say I used to put peanut butter on my celery! I think I will have to try a veggie hummus sandwich... mmmmmmmm!
