My children are back from college and love Hummus!

Their favorite brand is Sabra Red Pepper Hummus, which can get very expensive when eaten everyday as a snack or when they have a get together with friends over.

Can anyone recommend a recipe that is as close as you can get to the Sabra brand of Red Pepper Hummus?

TIA

Well, I do not have a specific recipe for Red Pepper Hummus, but I can tell you how I make regular hummus. Red pepper flavor could be achieved by adding roasted red peppers, which you can either make from scratch by "roasting" them over your gas burner (using a tongs) or buying them in the store. Start by adding one, and then tasting, adding more as necessary.

Basic recipe:

1/2 c. Tahini (this is the key...most people are not familiar with this. Buy in the specialty section of your grocery store...or in a health food store). This is fairly expensive stuff, but a jar will last for quite a few batches

One can garbanzo beans (chick peas). To save money, start with dried beans)

Garlic (one clove, diced)

Lemon Juice (1/2 a lemon...I never measure)

Dash Tabasco sauce.

All ingredients in food processor, and process till smooth.

I wish I had a more specific recipe for you, but this is my own creation. Play with it until you find the version that suits you.

We have made it before but I don't really use a recipe, but if you go to costco they sell hummus. It is $5 for this big tub of it. Making that much hummus would cost more than the $5.

Something that is really good too which most people don't seem to know is if you use tortilla chips, putting hummus and then salsa on the chips is so good it's addictive.

I eat hummus pretty much every day too. ( I put it in my hardboiled eggs instead of yolk) I tried some from Aldi's and was surprised it's now my favorite and not that expensive. So, if you have an Aldi's try theirs.

I always google my recipes. One of the main sites that I get them from is allrecipes.com.

I just googled easy hummus and got this:

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Extra-Easy-Hummus/Detail.aspx

They also have an easy red pepper hummus. I will glance at the reviews to see which has the best reviews. Always when looking for a new recipe, the main word I type is "easy" and what ever I want to make!

I have made the hummus from the above link and it is good!

Hummus is a staple at our house. Homemade is soooo much better!

2 Cans Chickpeas
2 Cloves Garlic
Handfull FRESH Parsley
2 Scallions, Chopped
6 T Tahini
6 T Lemon Juice
1 t Cumin Seeds, toasted
Pinch Cayenne
Salt to taste

Blend everything together in processor. Drizzle with Olive Oil, sprinkle with Paprika. You can half this recipe.

I like Trader Joe's chipotle hummus. Its great. If you use a basic recipe and add some canned chipotle pepper you can make it yourself if you like a little kick to your hummus.

I agree about the Costco hummous. It's delicious and I don't think you could make it for that price. :thumbsup2
