Humbug to a politically correct Christmas!

if the government has such a problem w/ it I expect them in Washington on Dec. 25 I dont care if its Christmas if they feel that any mention of Christmas is wrong then they better not celebrate it!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!! (im wearing my santa hat all day in school on dec.23..i dont care if you celebrate haunuka kwanza or nothing at all....its my religion...you can tell me happy haunuka..i wont get offended..in fact ill probably give you a hug and say the same thing! this is why we have freedom of speech so that i yell MERRY CHRITMAS and nobody will shoot me down (not literally) for it.)

Your santa hat has nothing to do with your religion ! It has to do with the secular "chrismas". Santa is not a religious figure , unless you worship him. The image we north American have of Santa is from a popular Coke add !

Here is comment I just read from somebady i dont know , but is supposed to well known in the USA , and a very religious person:

by Cal Thomas,

" Excerpt:
I have never understood why so many Christians feel the need to see and hear "Merry Christmas" proclaimed
to them at stores by people who may not believe its central message. While TV personalities, junk mail letters
and some of the ordained bemoan the increasing secularization of culture; perhaps some teaching might be
helpful from the One in whose behalf they claim to speak.

I do not care if a mall employee wishes me a "Merry Christmas," or not, or if mall managers favor snowpersons
over manger scenes, or erect trees they call "holiday" and not "Christmas." It isn't about their observing this event,
giving us a "religious rush" and creating a false sense of security that culture is better than it is. It is about people
who believe in this historic event observing it in a way that recalls the birth of the Savior of the world (not the
savior of the bottom line): silently, wondrously and worshipfully."

Edited to add that , I am not a Christian , or a beliver. I love Christmas for what it has become in the secular world , not the consumerism , but the "peace on earth to all people of good will" aspect !

Over the years, I've come to appreciate Cal Thomas' wit, humor, sly irreverence and often wise insights. I don't always agree with him, but he does often have a unique perspective on divisive issues.

In 2004, in a column titled "On the Record", he offered a suggestion that the two groups who were seeming to battle over Christmas in the public square, the Christians and the secularists, adopt a ceasefire agreement. His specific recommendations for each group were insightful, simple, and full of warmth and caring.

He called upon Christians to:

-- Decline participation in the annual "orgy of consumption" that takes place during the holiday season.
-- Practice Jesus' commands to "feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit those in prison and care for widows and orphans." Beyond that, we should show love to our neighbors and (GASP!) even our enemies, especially at Christmas. Finally, Jesus calls us to pray for those who persecute you (even if the persecution occurs only in one's mind -- that's my addition, not Cal's!).
-- Bottom line: Celebrate Christmas in your heart, your life, your relationships.

For secularists, Cal suggests:

-- Enjoy the holiday season, including Christmas, and feel free to call it anything your heart desires.
-- Put up displays of whatever you want, on public or private property -- or display nothing at all if that suits you.

My bottom line: let everyone celebrate whatever holiday(s) they choose to celebrate in whatever way they choose to (within the law's boundaries, of course). Seek not; forbid not! That means

1) Do not seek to impose your belief(s)/celebration(s) on anyone else and
2) Do not forbid anyone else from celebrating their belief(s)/celebration(s) in the way they choose (as long as it is lawful).

well infact i was in tons of trouble (in the principles office for an hour) for wearing a santa hat to school. Why? because its associated with chritmas. Am i saying that santa has to do with my religion? No. But he is assosiated with chritmas..which is my a celebration with in my religion. After that hour I went back to class w/o my hat. I wasnt offending anybody...and for that i was punished! Had i been preaching trying to force my religion on others down the halls...than i would accept punishment because freedom of religion. This year i go to a different school and i can wear the hat...ive already spoken to them. Kids get in trouble for stuff like wearing a santa hat which is something i cant stand.

You got in trouble for wearing a Santa hat? What kind of trouble? What was the school policy? Against santa hats in particular or hats in general?

Sorry, but I'm having a hard time believing this.

couldn't agree more. Ignor the few radical rightwingers who want to manipulate the masses for their own politcial gain. That's ALL THIS IS ABOUT.

Uh...hey Belle...school's for learning, not about expressions of religion, or politics or whatever suits your fancy today or any day. Obviously, if the hat was anything, it was disrupting your fellow classmates from doing what they're supposed to be doing in class...studying.

I think the folks that truly believe "Merry Christmas" is in danger of disappearing need to simply look around. This fake controversy is stupid, it almost makes me want to say "Bah, Humbug" to the whole season.

If their personal belief system is so fragile that not hearing "Merry Christmas" constantly diminishes their beliefs, they have very little faith to begin with.

I feel exactly the same way - with all their whining and demanding, it has made this season one of the worst ever for me.
It could not feel more "un-Christ like".

yes i did. The school policy is "no hats" BUT NO TEACHER OR ANYBODY PAYS ATTENTION TO THAT. honestly they dont, ive seen kids walk in with base ball caps on their heads and durags and other things...no body every got in trouble...maybe a kid here or there, but thats because they wore it during the pledge...i didnot do that. The trouble i got in wasnt bad. Did I infer that it was? if i did im sorry..even if it was a year ago..it still gets me mad. I got sent to the principals office and written up. For "breaking dress code"...i just found the paper, but i know theres more. (funny thing...the girls who dressed as playboy bunnies for halloween didnt get in any trouble!) If my math teacher had said (but my homeroom didnt have a problem) "erin, please take your hat off" or some thing along those lines i would have and only been a little ticked off cuz i mean..i really wanted to wear it. She DIDNOT have to scream "ERIN EILIZABETH TAKE THAT OFF RIGHT NOW THAT IS BREAKING THE DRESS CODE! YOU GET RIGHT DOWN TO THE OFFICE NOW!!" I did take the hat off...really quickly too. As she writes my pass she stands up and shes wearing a christmas sweater! I went down and the principal went off on a tangent of how chrismas hats are not allowed. I just kept telling her...i'll take it off..i'll put it in my locker..i'll never wear it again until im out of this place! And can i just say i had worn a santa hat since first grade until 7th and nobody had a problem. I think it was just a problem w/ the teacher...all my friends who walked into her room with the hats on (because we all have matching ones with our names..that we had just put on) were written up and sent to the principals office. All the kids who didnt have her...went around all day with no problems. Why do you have a problem believing this?

They encourage you to express views of anything where i go. You say school is for learning? Math, Science, History..yes. But what about people? To truly have a well rounded person and to understand the people that you meet in the real world..when you are still learning, you learn about people and their religions, backgrounds and other points of them. I happen to have a friend...he wears a turban people call him a terrorist. Are you saying that him explaining and expressing his religion isnt learning? And politics too. We express our views in the sole purpose that we can teach some one and get them to our side. I have constant political "battles" with my World History. Hes Rebublican Im Democrat. We go back and forth all the time. I understand where the republicans are coming from now, why? Because he taught me by expressing his views...he wont admit it..but i know i have taught him a bit of where democrats are coming from. You see, school IS for expressing becasue by expressing ourselves...we LEARN..which goes back to your original statement.."school is for learning" www.thecowproject.com..this how i express my self in school in view and what really goes on.

And my santa hat couldnt have been disturbing any one because
1)i sit in the back..its not blocking views
2)we didnt learn anything...it was just parties all day
3)i wore every year and nobody had a problem with it
4)other people wore them...and only the ones who walked into that class were writen up.

About the Santa hat in school problem...
my dh teaches high school. The dress code is written, the students are aware. Do they break the dress code? Yes. Does my DH say something? You bet. Often he is the one to bust kids, other teachers have let it slide. Does that stop him from busting them? Nope. He says he feels whether other teachers are showing "American Pie" instead of teaching, that will not stop him from being the unpopular teacher who TEACHES. And he will be the unpopular teacher who takes away cell phones, MP3 players, and other restricted media that are being used during class time. And he will be the teacher who will bust the dress code violations even though all the other teachers who saw that kid that day did nothing. He even, gasp, has LESSONS the day before Christmas Break!!

My point is that just because you didn't get in trouble for breaking the no-hat rule ever before does NOT mean that you were not breaking the rule. My thought is that it was just a matter of time. Not judging the rule, just saying that if you break rules, you may get punished. The teacher might have been quick to force you to the office, I was not there and only have your side. But maybe, just maybe, the teacher was frustrated at being the ONLY teacher enforcing the dress code.

Yep. My DH is a high school teacher too (band) and he enforces the rules. Sometimes he misses a kid breaking the rule but spots another kid. It happens. Of course each one thinks they have been "singled out" by him.
