I am thinking about buying into DVC. Here is a question I have, or maybe more of a statement with a question.

I am a smoker. Let's not discuss the negatives of smoking, just suffice it to say, that I do. I wish I didn't, but it isn't changing today, or tomorrow probably.

The question is: If I have a room at one of the DVC properties with a nice deck area, can I go outside and give in to one of my vices, or would I have to run to a designated smoking area of the resort?

Obviously no one would smoke in a room, but is outdoors still considered an area where I could? Who knows, I might like to sit outdoors on a nice evening, and have a couple. All I want to know is can I?

Smoking is not permitted on any balcony or patio at any Disney Resort Hotel, only in designated smoking areas.

Here is the link to the DIS sticky on the designated smoking areas at WDW.

I believe this is only to be discussed in that thread if I recall right, or else there's a similar thread on the Resorts board like that.

In any case, no smoking anywhere but the DSAs (as a smoker myself, I sympathize, but I recommend just sucking it up and walking to the DSA -- since I follow the rules I tend to get really really peeved if I see anyone smoking on their balcony - you never know, some angry rule follower like me might turn you in!).:rotfl:

This is not a DVC issue, by the way.

That's a policy of Disney Resorts, not DVC only. You can't smoke in ANY Disney resort except in the designated areas.

It's also a major trend for hotels in general and timeshares as well. Actually timeshares have been slower to move that direction than have hotels, even within the same company.

As a nonsmoker, I thank the OP for being considerate and willing to follow the rules to go to the DSA as required. I really appreciate it.

Although I do not condone the action, I have seen people smoke on the balconies, however I have no issues reporting them, and at my home resort, I wouldn't even need to bother to report them if I'm staying in a Savannah room because they have cameras pointed pretty much everywhere and are VERY strict about things being thrown off balconies, smoking, etc.

(Note: I do not smoke and no one does in my family, so the above is just an observation, not an actual experience).

And don't try to sneek and do it at the parks, my BIL after numerous warnings from DW and myself got caught verytime he would lite up. I think he wasted 2 - 3 packs by lighting up and having to put it out right away.

A reminder that smoking discussions are not allowed on the DVC Boards, as it is a Disney wide policy decision, and not specific to DVC. I must close this thread, but thank you for all who participated so far for keeping it on topic and respectful. :)
