So is it like my Netflix? I really want to build my own tv programing we don't use the majority of our channels . We really only use Abc, NBC,CBS,Fox Espn ,TLC,E,DISNEY xd ,A&E,history channel ,hallmark,food-network,USA, UFC (not sure of the network),lifetime ,Nickelodeon ,Animal plant,
We have Dish network now and our contract is up .

Is it like Netflix in what way?

Hulu+ is mostly TV shows vs. movies, but will have the more current TV shows on it. There will be no current CBS shows though.

Hulu Plus often shows commercials (although this past 2 weeks I've been watching old The Biggest Loser and NO ads). But most shows will show up a day after it's been broadcast, as opposed to Netflix, where they'll put an entire season up once the whole season has been broadcast.

We don't have cable just local channels but that includes ABC, NBC, and CBS. We get about 5 or 6 channels. So if u had Netflix and Hulu you can still have standard channels for no cost. Might need an antenna. Hulu works like Netflix you pay once a month and watch what you want. It will cover some of your list but not all. If you have a Roku you can download some specific channels and they are free but are usually limited in what they show but they do update often. We use that feature a lot.

I would suggest you sign up for a free trial and take a look at the shows they offer to see if the ones you watch are there, then make the decision. They do not have Disney, History, A&E, ESPN, Food Network or CBS shows.

I suggest you try Couchtuner. The site offers many shows across the local networks ABS, CBS, NBC, as well as the cable networks - TNT, HBO, Showtime and its free and all current content (as well as past seasons)

Playon is also a good one we use. You can watch ESPN live and they have selections from the Food Network, HGTV, History etc. It doesn't have every show, but enough to fill the void. We got rid of Directv 1 year ago when we started having problems with the service. We figured we'd give it a try(we had netflix at the time). We haven't missed it at all. Dh gets MLB network(paying for it) and we do have an antenna for locals. I enjoy my low bill :goodvibes

I tried hulu+, it dosen't seem to run as smoothly as netflix....more freezes, etc. I tend to either watch tv with antenna, or netflix, or go online to watch a particular show if I want to

We've tried to watch ESPN on PlayOn, but it says that we have to log in with our cable provider to watch. How are you able to watch?

Also, we tried MLB network, but our local team was blacked out.

I live with a family who has to have cable with premium channels but my tivo is slowly dying and not able to hold many shows. So I use hulu plus but I agree it freezes or stops playing completely. And I hate the commercials for something I'm paying for. I love Netflix.

We use Netflix, Hulu+, and CBS.com for most of our shows. We usually watch through our PS3, but we hooked up a desktop computer to our TV as well.

Besides watching shows on the internet, out kids think it's great doing their school work on the big screen. :goodvibes

I second the recommendations to sign up for a trial for Hulu+ and see how it goes. It did annoy me that it still had commercials, and there are some limitations on certain content (some can only be streamed from a computer and not through another device like the ps3).

This site is illegal. Please support the shows you enjoy by watching them legally, whether paying for cable or watching free through legit sites.

Do any of the streaming services carry AMC shows? I'm seriously tempted to give up our cable at long last, especially now that HBO is coming to Amazon Prime, but AMC/The Walking Dead remains a sticking point.

Yes, but a season behind, so you would have to wait a year. But, if you are impatient like us, amazon usually sells them for 99cents the day after they air, and the season primier is always free to everyone on amc.com. And at worst they are $2, which in the long run isn't near the cost of cable. We do netflix, Hulu, and buy walking dead and mad men when we need to.

We're trying out Hulu Plus to see if we can ditch Dish.

I hate that there are zero Parental Controls. The only thing you can do is lock your ipad on "kid" genre, which is just stupid stuff like SpongeBob.
For instance, DKs want to watch Doctor Who. They can search by name, no issue. But if they scroll through to browse, they'll come across a lot of scary and sexy stuff. Not cool. Also, the commercials on [specifically] Doctor Who were adult oriented - again, too sexy or too scary for little ones. LOL, a lot of people may find Doctor Who too scary :rotfl: but I was concerned more with the browsing options and commercials.

The kids' solution was to run out of the room every time they saw a commercial starting. Fun way to watch TV.

The only other thing you can do is contact Hulu and tell them to switch your account to under 18 yrs old. Then the adult content won't show - but most of the popular shows will disappear as well as I believe that restricts anything above a PG 13 rating. You can't switch it on/off as needed.

Is it possible to get Fox News without cable/satellite?

Not "actual" live Fox News, but on our Roku we have the Fix News channel and you can watch clips of all the shows or listen to live Fox radio all day. I really missed The Five when we suspended DTV, but now I can watch clips of it, so I'm ok :). There is also a channel on our Roku called Nowhere TV and we get live news out of Boston it (there are a slew of channels to choose from, but Boston is the closest to us). There is no commercials and the news is the local news, not national nightly news, but we like it. Funniest part is when they cut to commercials, we get the traffic cam. No noise, just watching cars go by LOL!!

Walking Dead and football are why we suspended instead of shut off our DTV. Come fall, it's back to the big bill til January again!
