Ok, I just got off the phone with MS. I was calling to check availability for HH for march. The woman I spoke with told me she wasn't sure if the room was available or not. Huh?? Either it is or it isn't right?? I said I don't understand why you can't tell if it is available and she said it is very limited availability. Ok, I understand that, but why could she not tell if I could book a certain day?

Does this make sense to anyone?

Also does $165 /night for HH one bedroom on saturday in March sound right? Sounds awfully cheap to me (like maybe a studio price) but I asked her twice and she said it was a one bedroom price.

Hi,

That does sound cheap for a one bedroom. Check the dvcmember website to check the rates.

Were you calling to ask about a cash reservation? Then I can see where they may not always know. I have had them have to put me on hold while they called CRO to check on a cash reservation. I don't think the systems always talk to each other.

No, we are hoping to go thursday through monday and pay cash for saturday. So 3 nights on points and 1 on cash. But I didn't ask about the cash night until after she told me that she couldn't tell availability.

As far as availability, I recently booked a 1 BR for February. Did she find out about availability for you? When I called, she told me she wasn't sure if there was availability, put me on hold, then came back and booked for me. Since this was new to me, to be put on hold, etc., I questioned her-"Why did you do that?" She told me that 1 BRs are always so limited, that MS frequently calls HHI resort to check availability.
As for the rate, yes it does sound cheap, doesn't it?! But, believe it or not, I think it's correct. When we go in February, we're paying for the first night there (Saturday), before using our points. We're paying $112.50, that's with the 25% member discount, for a one bedroom. Now all we have to do is pray that they work it so that we don't have to move between our cash night and our points nights. MS wouldn't guarantee that, but said it's not likely we'll move.

Sometimes they shift things around to make a reservation. Were you just asking about availability to "maybe" book or were you really placing the reservation? If you weren't actually making the reservation she wouldn't look into shifting things but she was letting you know it might be possible. I'm not exactly sure what the "shifting" is all about but it relates to how they use points that are given back to DVC when members use other trips.

As to the cash price, I'm not sure where that's coming from. The Member Discount is 25% rack rate but they sometimes match specials that are available.

She did put me on hold a couple times and did give me some dates ("I have thursday, friday and saturday - not sure about sunday"). So maybe they call HH to make sure before? Ok, if that is what she meant.

tinkgrl, where can I find the rates? I am on the DVC member site and I must be blind cause I don't see it.

LOL! This is almost like chat! I just looked up the rates and the 1 bedroom at that time of year is $220. 25% off for the Member Discount brings it to $165. There is 10% tax. (The regular price for the studio is also $165 -- we'd get 25% off of that for a Member Discount.)

If you go to the "regular" part of the DVC site, click on the individual resort, you'll see a choice of options down the left-hand side. One option is Rates. Member rates are 25% off of these prices.
