HUGE Wedding Update

Hi girls,

People have been asking me for a wedding update lately so I guess I'd better provide one. Ok, the bad nws first (and it's BAD!)

My wedding dress came into the store May 1st but when I tried it on, it's not what I asked for in Nov. The neckline is all wrong - not even close to what was discussed. Sadly the dress shop have refused to acknowledge that there is any problem whatsoever, claim that the dress is exactly what I asked for (if it was, why the heck would I be complaining at them?) and that it is my fault if there are any problems. We're now in a stalemate situation where neither party will back down - I am in the course of getting consumer advice on my legal rights and will also be contacting some local wedding planners for advice and help. Obviously I am really upset over all this, hence my not being around much for the last few weeks - I am under total stress over such an integral part of my wedding.

However every cloud has a silver lining and ours has a big one - that's the only problem we're dealing with at this point. All my other suppliers are being total angels over everything I've asked for!

The bridesmaids dresses came in a while back now and two of the 4 girls have been to try them on. Here are the groom's sister (blonde hair) and my best friend/MOH (black hair) trying on their dresses for the length to be adjusted:

The invitations are also sorted. These were made by a bespoke designer who gave us custom artwork for all the cards - I couldn't find anything Cinderella-y that I liked which was available in the UK. The custom artwork was a total bargain - $20, I couldn't believe it when she quoted that to me! The invitations will be 3 cards: the main invitation card, an information card with details for local hotels/taxis etc and an RSVP card. When we were looking at invitations, these ended up costing only a few dollars more than it would have cost to make my own from scratch, I feel like I've gotten the bargain of the millennium!

I have my garters, courtsey of an US ebay store. They came in a pack of two - apparently one is a "tossing" garter - I've never heard of that before, is it common in the USA?

Our table number cards have been printed up by a friend of the family, so far he's not asked for any payment but we're not assuming they were free. They are based off a design from CRT - I blanked out the restaurant name and that's where the numbers are placed.

I've been to the florist with future MIL who is a total plant lover/expert (I'm so glad I have an ace MIL who I get on with). They showed me some great pictures and we're going with a brightly coloured orange/red/yellow bouquet of exotic flowers -please don't ak me what, I don't do flowers, I just pointed at things in photos! The best I can say is that I think there are roses and calla lillies in there. The table centerpieces will match but instead of being in vases, they will be in fresh hollowed out pumpkins. At the centre will be a hidden metal hook which will hopefully have a balloon attached to it for the evening reception.

I also discovered this beauty for $10 in TK Maxx - it will be my top table centrepiece:

In case I didn't post them earlier, these are the place card holders and guest favours that will also be on the tables along with a creamy yellow tablecloth and napkins:

Right now I am working on gifts for mum's/bridesmaids etc. I ordered the mum's gifts a couple of weeks ago, they are getting cut crystal bowls from Tiffany & Co - again a total steal! Glad we ordered when we did as I've just seen on that link that they've upped the price!

I have also bought future DH's wedding present - a genuine Brian May from Queen autograph which I'm having framed (another bargain considering who he is). He's a huge fan but hopefully won't guess at this, it's being stored at his parents house for me.

Finally the honeymoon and hen party (bachelorette party) are progressing well (we don't do bridal showers in this country so I guess that's one less thing to worry about!) For the honeymoon we are coming to Orlando and going on the Wonder for the 1st time - a 3 night cruise in a Cat 6 stateroom, I think - it's the one with a verandah. We're also staying at the WLV, AKL and the BCV! My hen night is a few nights at Disneyland Paris with 2 of my bridesmaids (the 2 without kids!)

Phew, I think that's it for now. Will keep you all posted!

Your wedding arrangements look wonderful!!

I am sorry to hear about the wedding dress thing. Did you print off the thread from here where you discussed with us the changes you were having made? Then they could see by the dates that this wasn't something you just came up with.

I just love your invitations.

WOW! Everything looks amazing so far. Sorry to hear about your dress. Do you have a backup option if they aren't willing/able to come through?

Everything sounds just lovely! So sorry to hear about your dress-it's such an important part, too-it's what you'll see when you look back at your photos years from now. I hope they can get it taken care of!

As for the tossing garter-it seems to be common here, same as having a tossing bouquet: you get to keep the 'real' one for your memories, but can still have the traditional tossing. Have fun!

Wow, I love all the wedding stuff! I hope the dress situation gets sorted to your satisfaction soon:).

Awesome, everything is superb!

As for the Garter, here in the US the bride tosses a fake flower bouquet to all the single girls and the groom takes your tossing garter off your leg and flings it like a sling shot to the single guys. The guy that catches it puts it on the girl that caught the bouquet (I find that part kind of tacky sometimes, can get really gross) and then they dance(?), I can't remember.

Good idea AWM about the thread, that might give her a leg up so to speak. I hope you get all that straightened out soon.

Love the dresses!
Yep, I'd pull the wedding info off the thread too... might give you some more weight to throw at them..

As for the tossing of the fake bouqet and garter.. yep, that is the way I remember it... (although I never caught one!)...

Love the invitations!!!

So sorry to hear about the dress! I agree, dig up the thread!

I love your invitations- they are beautiful! Cinderella's carriage is my favorite.

Thanks for the update!

Oh my gosh, I can just imagine some of the guy/girl combos the tossing stuff could result in - not worth thinking about!!!

I, too, ran into difficulties with my original dress, top and bottom of the dress were two different sizes. The dress shop would not admit it was a problem. It was eight weeks before the wedding so reordering was not an option. I ended up going to another bridal shop and buying off the rack. At the time I was devasted, but eighteen years later, I couldn't even tell you what the original dress looked like.

Everything looks magical. No matter what challenges come up between now and then, your day will be wonderful. I love all the delays you have put into the wedding. Enjoy this wonderful time in your life. :cloud9:

queenie, i love all the wedding stuff you have picked out. i love how it all matches. i love the place card holders. and the pumpkin coach with the candle- love that too!

good luck with the dress. it will work out somehow, someway. i wish there was something i could do. keep us up to date with how everything goes.

I wish I could get another dress but there's no way I can afford to, the one I'm having problems with cost $1800 - the average cost of a UK wedding dress.

sorry about your dress......don't let them get away with not making it right!!

Love all the pictures, everything looks beautiful.

At my wedding (25 people) the only two single people was my flower girl (DH 7 yr old cousin) and my 18 month old DN. we did the toss thing and it made for a cute photo.

What an absolute fairy tale. It is all so gorgeous.

Makes me want to get married again. Correct that - have another wedding.....not necessarily the husband. LOL

Ok let's talk neckline. What is wrong with it? Let's all brainstorm a solution. You have plenty of time for it to be fixed now let's try to fix it!!

You wedding looks spectacular so far. I love the candle coaches you are giving away! And the Tiffany bowls are lovely. I love the bridesmaid dresses. And as red is my favorite color I also  your invitations!

Princess your day is coming! Congratulations and now let's fix that dress. A bad neckline didn't stop Cinderella!
