Huge increase for 2009 DDP? Just read it.

Hmm.... pretty close to that much, actually.

Here's a question - have the ages always been different for those in the UK? I mean, has it always been 3-11 child dining and tickets or is that a change? If it's a change, I think a lot of people will be happy that it's gone up 2 years from age 9!

I was curious about that as well - official UK website says 10 and up for adults, kids 3 - 9!!!
I also tried to make a mock booking for 09 and the official site does NOT offer the DDP so far!! You can book it for 08 though!

Virgin DOES offer the DDP for 09!!! (just google Virgin Atlantic Disney)

Do you really think so? $12 per adult, per day, for 1 QS meal, 1 TS and a snack? That seems like a bigger "food price" increase then what I'm paying at the grocery store, though it's DEFINITELY up. I'd say my weekly bill is up $30 or so. Divided over 7 days, that's $4.29/day. For all 3 meals for 4 people (minus usually 1 lunch out per week and 1 dinner, so raise that up a bit).

We get to see both sides of it, too, since DH farms part-time. They're getting GREAT prices for crops, so that's nice, helps offset all our other expense increases a bit (because no raise has happened at his job, LOL!)

Food ingredients are a small percentage of the costs of a restaurant. Utilities, labor, etc. Regardless, checking my Quicken data:

Last month: $211.29
Average spending for last 12 months: $127.87

So not quite double, but pretty close.

Hey again all, thought I might be going mad so I checked this one again!

Just to confirm, the DDP for 2009 DOES show up with the increased price through the disneyworld.co.uk site, BUT you have to select "flight inclusive holidays". Not just resort and ticket only bookings. It takes you to a slightly different screen from the usual one but it looks like its pretty much diverting you to Virgin bookings albeit painted in Disney colours, as the flights offered with the packages are the standard Virgin Atlantic ones.

:thumbsup2

Who knows if the tip and app will be added back for 50 bucks. I just have a feeling it might be one or the other and not both. But I could be wrong.

the adut 12+ your refering to is for virgins addult price for flights ext ddp adult is 10 up
Paulh

No im really really not, im referring to what is clearly stated on the booking section of the Disneyworld UK website when booking a flight inclusive holiday next year and looking to apply the DDP (it also says this is the case for 2008 as well) which is

Adult = 12+
Child = 3-11

Please, one person just follow those steps and you will see im not making up random information for the sake of it!

Yes, I know food ingredients are only a small percentage of the costs - the post I was responding too indicated that poster thought the increase would be due to increase in food costs. That's what I didn't think, Alone, would warrant an increase of $12 pp. Your food spending has increased quite a bit, though, definitely more than mine. $30/wk is about 1/3 increase for us. No arguing it's definitely up everywhere!

There's also definitely the argument, though, that all the OTHER things that go into restaurant costs are going up too - utilities for example - and that will be factored into the DDP price. Do you think menu prices will go up also? I think I've read that some already have - LeCellier for example.

I still think that that large of an increase, with no additions to the plan, will be a VERY tough pill to swallow for most consumers. That may be the point, though, to decrease its use. Still holding out hope that IF the price goes to $50 pp, that at least either tip or appy is added back in (my preference being tip, though I know it's a long shot!!)

Thanks for checking and clearing that up, I thought I was going completely mad :thumbsup2

I agree with others who said that they will either add in the appy, OR the tip for the $50, but not both. In addition, who really knows what the US info will be. I am presuming us US folks have at least 4 more weeks of waiting for our info.

Should be interesting though! On a side note- we are going for the free DDP this year, and I am REALLY hoping the bounceback is the free DDP AGAIN for 2009! If it is, we will book, if not? We won't book. We want to stay in the value hotels, so even a 40% off code wouldn't come close to covering the DDP costs OOP for 2-4 adults. No matter what the plan is like next year, I doubt we will buy it. We will go if it's free, or we will just skip DW next year.

Here's a "screen shot" image directly from Disney's UK booking site. Clearly - it shows the increase for 2009 DDP. I think we all agree that this equals about $50 US dollars.

When I click on "click here" for more information - it only shows detail on the 2008 DDP.

Remember - since there is no detail about 2009 - we do not know what's included or changing for 2009.

My opinion - for those who want it - is that they are going to add ONE more Counter Service to the DDP. That's just my opinion and speculation. ;)

Not sure how much this is worth over-analyzing, but I think it's hard to make any good estimations when you're looking at absolute price differences. Not knowing what you're total weekly grocery bill looks like, it's hard to see if the difference of $30 is significant or not.

Consider the theoretical DDP increase from 38->50, that's a 31% increase. At first glance, that does seem steep, I agree. In your case, if for instance your grocery bill used to be only $100, then that's a 30% increase for you, and then this change is pretty much in line.

Personally, I'm pretty anal about how much I pay for groceries, and take notice when prices fluctuate. It's hard to say an exact amount, since a lot of things vary seasonally anyway (think dairy and produce), but for packaged items on the shelf, I'd say I've seen about a 15% increase or so.

Personally, if that $50pp DDP cost is true, I'm betting it's identical to what it is this year.

I'm not sure why people do not use the Disney Dining Card (actually not so sure what the real name is).

My husband gets one as a castmember - but it gives us 20% discounts on all food, beverages and liquor.

The $$$ does not make sense for the DDP with this card and we are able to add our friends to the check. Last December we traveled with 12 guests and the discount applied to everyone.

Perhaps that would be a solution for some people.

I would use it but the card is very limited in that not many people qualify. Us regular vacationers don't qualify. I am not a Florida resident and I don't have an AP. I spose if we went enough to make 1 AP worth it we would consider it. I think we'd have to figure out how much we'd save on food and the added cost of the AP above what we were planning on buying tickets wise.

Perhaps this would make sense to some families who were planning on going for 7 nights. Maybe 1 person getting an AP would be worth it. Let's do some math...

A 7 day pass is 281 (hopper/4 parks)
An annual pass is 477.
The cost for the DDE is an additional 60 bucks.

SO....in order to break even you'd have to save 256 on your 7 night trip. (477-281+60)

That 256 per the DDE would end up being 20% of your bill. So that would mean that you would have to eat $1280 worth of food at covered DDE restaurants during the 7 night trip to break even.

1280/7 = 182. I would think that you would hit that with 2adults and 2 children-provided you ate 1 TS, 1CS and 1 snack per day per person just like on the DDP only you paid OOP.

I think if you had a group of say 6 people? This would be an even better deal though. I doubt I would waste the time/energy/$$$, to just 'break even'...I'd want to save at least 100 bucks before I'd bother.

So...in short- if you have a large group going OR are going to DW for a long time- say 10 nights...the DDE would be worth it. I'd buy 1 AP and get the DDE card to save $$.

For those of us that only go with 1 or 2 other people, for a week or less? Probably not worth it.

I"m sorry.

I thought anyone could pickuip this card. I didn't realize an AP was required. That would certainly eliminate the benefits of the card except, perhaps, for a large group.

So sorry.
