Huge food portions, enough to share, but what if you're solo?

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with those huge food portions they give you lots of times at WDW? I mean, there's usually enough food in one portion to share, only you have no one to share with if you're solo. I hate to throw away food, or leave half of it on my plate. Does anyone else have any tips? Occassionally I can take left overs back to my room, if I'm going right back after I eat. Once in MGM I ordered a kids meal, but they're usually hot dogs or chicken nuggets. Any tips? Do people often order just appetizers for this reason? Throw half of it away (Hey, I paid for it-if I want, I can throw it out). This has always kind of bothered me.

Appetizers.

I had a great meal of asparagus soup, the duck and pork firecracker appetizer, and the chocolate candies dessert at Jiko, solo.

If you feel the portions will be too huge, do that. Otherwise, do what I do:
If I know I'll be having a big meal, I'll eat lightly so I arrive hungry.

I never eat three meals a day at WDW. Breakfast could be cereal, or a piece of fruit, or a muffin. If I'm eating a full breakfast (buffet or otherwise),
I'd have a light meal late in the day, or some snacks.

When I ate breakfast solo at Boatwright's, the waitress told me I could order only one of the sweet potato pancakes rather than the entire stack. It seems reasonable that other eateries may allow similar requests when possible.

I've finally learned to ask if smaller portions are available at local restaurants and plan to do the same on my next WDW trip (not until December, 2006, unfortunately!). Sometimes they do about 50% of the food at about 70% of the cost (sort of like printing--there are fixed costs for each customer) or they allow me to order from the seniors (will qualify in a few years!) or the childrens menu.

However, I do tip as if I purchased a full meal including beverage, even if I just order ice water to drink. It isn't the server's fault that my body requires less food and prefers water to other beverages! :)

There are some places that have more unique children's meals. Especially at Epcot. Check out the menus at www.allearsnet.com before you go to get an idea of whats out there.

For the combo meals that come with fries or something, just ask for it without. Most times, they take $1 or $2 off.

Try ordering an appetizer or two as your main meal.

Another thing would to try and eat at buffets, that way you control your portions.

HTH,

For me, I like to eat large at the breakfast buffets, but for the rest of the day I want smaller portions. If I eat larger portions, later in the day, I will feel sick. So usually, I would just throw out the food. On my next trip in December, I am thinking of asking for a smaller portion, not a kid's portion. I will let you know if this works OK.

I saw children at the next table order a child's portion of the fried chicken at 50s PTC.
