I don't normally post about stuff like this, but yet another reason to hold tight to your kids - you never know what will happen.

Today's school paper came out with a heart-wrenching story of one of our bravest high school students.

Over Christmas break, she felt really sick for longer than normal. Her parents took her to the doctor and it was found that she had a large tumor in her stomach.

Her doctors scheduled her for surgery ASAP. What they removed was a 30 lb tumor. They peppered her and peppered her about her not noticing what was going on, and her only response what that she felt normal.

After the biopsy results, the surgeons found out that the tumor was caused by ovarian cancer. She can't be more than 17!

She is slated for 5 more rounds of chemo, and our school is working with her through virtual schooling. She hopes to be able to return to school for 1/2 days after the last round of chemo.

Parents, guardians, family - hug your kids. Get them checked for their regular check ups. It could save their life.

Thats so awful. Prayers and Pixie dust sent. :wizard:

Sometimes as parents we don't realize how blessed we are to have healthy children.

:grouphug: prayers going out to her and her family! :wizard: I wish her strength and positive energy as she fights the beast. No one should have to go through this, let alone someone so young.

Just another reminder to be thankful for what we have and enjoy each day we have with our families

How awful.. prayers out their way.

This is the reason why I can't go to bed angry at DH, or hang up the phone angry, or leave the house angry at him. I just can't do it. He has a lot of medical issues that are unsolved (no test has provided answers yet), and I really worry about him, even though he's only 27.. I could never live with myself if something happened, whether fatal or not, and the last thing before that incident that I said to him was something other than "I love you".

I just couldnt't imagine dealing with ovarian cancer that young. You expect leukemia or other common childhood cancers. This young lady will never be able to bear children now. Granted, that won't stop her from having a family if it is her choice, but it just doesn't seem fair to have that choice removed from the equation so early on. I know far too many women who are devasted by fertility issues. I'm just thankful she will have other options if/when she decides to have a family.
