I am hesitant to post personal info in the internet, but one thing that hasn't been mentioned is all of these people laid off (and, yes, it has affected my family) who are now without health insurance.
in many instances, the person laid off has a spouse who has health insurance. but often, the spouse is a homemaker. or a waitress. etc. etc.
there was a thread about 8 months ago: "is health insurance a right or a responsibility?"
8 months later.. how many people have changed their tune, now that it affects them? how many people, who had the same job for 27 years, with benefits, find themselves without benefits? and have pre-exisitng conditions, and need , say bloodpressure meds.? and are without a major income, yet cannot afford health insurance, or would not be accepted, even if they COULD afford it?
people in this great country, who worked all their lives, shouldn't have to be afraid to get needed yearly mammograms (esp. if breast cancer runs in their family), or a doctor ordered colonoscopy(when colon cancer runs in their family) because they can't afford it. and, even if you can pay for the tests... who will pay for the treatment? if anything, hopefully not, is found?
those of us who "did things right" should not have to do without basic health care. feel a chest pain? ignore it. it'll hopefully go away. big blind spot? history of bad eyes? maybe it'll go away.
ok, off my soap box....
