Hubby broke his foot 10 days before our vacation. Any tips for us?He has a big boot and trying to figure out how to salvage our trip. Thanks so much.

I broke my ankle last September 1 week before our planned DW trip and we had to postpone as I couldn't fly long haul with the cast on. After a miserable couple of weeks at home on crutches (non weight bearing) I bought a "knee scooter" from Amazon. I'd highly recommend getting one, great fun to use, and would work well in the parks I reckon with all the flat floor surfaces. Good luck x

edit- just checked, the one I got was a 'drive medical 790 knee walker' and I think you can rent similar ones too weekly. Worth every penny!

In 2011 I broke my foot immediately after checking into my Disney Resort! I was sure the trip was over, but it was still wonderful. Glad he's decided on the ECV and not trying to limp around on crutches.

If he's on pain medication, I found it best to stick to a schedule rather than wait until I noticed pain. With all the heat, noise, and general overstimulation at WDW, it's easy to not notice the pain until it's so bad the medication doesn't help as much. I also liked to take regular breaks for elevation.

It's easier to get in and out of family restrooms than the regular restrooms, especially when they're crowded.

There's generally a CM outside each attraction who will spot the ECV and tell you if there's any special procedure for getting in line/boarding the attraction. If not, you can flag one down and ask. Same goes for if you feel like parking it and walking in for any reason (crowded table service restaurant, etc.)

I can be your hubby for the vacation ;) leave him at home. Seriously, hope he has fun in the parks...Def use an ECV.

¨We rented a scooter from Walker Mobility. Very convenient. You may want to check out the Disabilities forum, that is where I was able to get a lot of information.

Thanks so much for the advice guys. Sounds like all is not lost☺️

DH broke his foot playing hopscotch at Epcot. We didn't rent and ECV because we only had a couple of days left in the trip. I would highly recommend it however. I never realized how many hills there were at WDW until I had to push a wheelchair!

Honestly I think it is one of the best spots to go. I was in a wheel chair in my trip in high school and everyone was so accommodating. And you could still do so much, not like other parks with mostly thrill rides that you can no longer ride

Also, if you're flying, be sure to contact the airlines. They'll have a wheelchair waiting to help him with gate checks and getting to ME or car rental location.

Thanks everyone. I booked his Ecv from walker mobility. I paid $215.00 for a 9 day rental. I'm feeling a lot better about this trip.

image.jpg I broke my foot about 4 hours into our first Disney trip at DHS. I spent the entire evening at the ER somewhere close by. It was crazy! But my hubby ended up getting me an ECV, I did have a giant boot on. It's funny, I was really upset at first but then I realized I didn't have to do any walking... I was running the hubby ragged! He was super tired at the end of the trip and I felt relaxed and refreshed! Haha! Not all is lost. Just prepared to try and keep up with him :)

Thank you!!

I broke my foot on the first day of our trip & I rented from scooterbug. I've used them twice now and they have better prices than most of the companies that are Disney recommend and the customs service is great.

Actually, you should be feeling overjoyed about this trip. By renting from offsite, your husband will have the scooter 24/7 so he can just drive it around the entire time. Plus - you'll have space to store any purchase you make and your husband won't get tired. He'll be able to use any queues that are accessible so you're not going to be getting special treatment and the Cast Members are great with helping people in scooters and wheelchairs. He can transport from the scooter to a ride vehicle so all is good for that.

The only thing I would highly advise is once you have the scooter is for him to practice backing the thing up. And stopping quickly as some guests don't realize there is a scooter nearby and can walk in front of him without really seeing him.
