Hi. Does anyone have any idea when December's HST cheque is coming, its going to be SOOO handy at this time.I don't have to wait for DH's holiday pay this time.

I read an article about the hst rebates a few weeks ago and it mentioned they will go out Dec.10:)

yes being issued on the 10t. If you get direct deposit it will be in on the 10th, if mail maybe a couple days after that.

Does anyone remember how much these cheques are for? I think around $300.00 for a family.

Do all Prov. get these checks? I can't remember if we got them :confused3

I've never heard of these either..I think it's Ontario only? :confused3

It is only in ontario. It is suppose to make up for all the extra taxes we have to pay now that the provinces have combined taxes with the GST to make it the HST 13%. Of course that meant gas went up 8%, my daughters dance classes went up 8%, heat, electricity and water all went up 8%.

Seriously? I ours is 15% and we get NOTHING and it's been like that for a LONG time!

I think that the key is the "LONG time!". This is a one year thing (3 payments) for Ontario to help with the transition. Officially, it is the "Tax Transition Rebate".

I'm now a little curious....so is this $300 x 3 times a year = $900? And does every family receive one or is it lower income based? Just doing the math in my head and am a little perplexed if the case is $900 per every family...I doubt that would be it...would kind of defeat the purpose I would think...:confused3

It's actually $335x3=$1000 per family or $100x3=$300 for single people. But it is only if you make below a certain level of income (about $160,000 for families and $80,000 for singles - some families/people with incomes just over the cut-offs will get a reduced amount).

It is only for one year - the tax is here forever (or until a new government decides to try something new).

Not saying it makes sense (tax or rebate), just giving the details.

And this is in addition to the Federal GST/HST rebate that some get? Obviosly this Ontario rebate must have been agreed upon at a Provincial Level. I just wonder why they never "phased" it in (HST) rather than make it all at once then give A LOT of it back for the first year? Seems kind of pointless when you factor in the costs of processing these cheques as well. Nova Scotia has been paying HST since 1997...I wish we could get a little piece of the pie we've been paying for 13 year! I could go to Disney every year for the rest of my life!!! :rotfl:

BC also offers an HST tax credit. I guess the centre of the world moved out west :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Really? We got checks in the mail :confused3 how could I not remember this?
Are we getting them again this year? :goodvibes

Just like not everyone in Ontario will get HST cheques, I presume not everyone in BC gets them.:rotfl:

As to how you don't know about them, I have no idea. :confused3 Many of my friends have received them. A very quick Google search brings up all the details.

Ummm...HST is just a new name. We had been paying 15% tax here in Ontario for years, and they reduced it to 13%, and changed the name. When they did this though, all kinds of GST exempt products now are higher due to HST (which is a combined tax). The rebates are only at certain income levels, by the way.

Our tax rates in Ontario are very high. My property tax for a 3700 sq foot house is $5,000/year. Not to mention ridiculously high insurance rates, water, etc.

Not trying to have a contest, but we pay a lot of taxes in Ontario, and we have been for a long time, as have other provinces. Not sure what your cost of living is in Nova Scotia, but we are pretty high in Ontario.

Anyone know which provice has the highest cost of living? I would assume it's Ontario or BC. :confused3

I'm not sure you can really discuss it in terms of province. Certainly Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal are the cities with the highest costs of living (according to the 2010 Mercer report - these are the only 3 cities within the top 100 most expensive cities in the world). But that does mean that overall, Ontario, BC, and Quebec are the most expensive provinces. I'm sure that there are areas of all three provinces with much lower costs of living.

And, people answer the question based on different things. For example - personal tax rates? corporate tax rates? price of 2L of milk? average house cost?

They aren't provinces, but the territories have very high costs of living (though it is partially offset by tax breaks).
