HS Strategy For Half Day with Small Kids

We will be visiting in early May with a 6 and 4 year old. I am anxious about HS because on our recent adults only trip in November my spectacular lack of knowledge on LL and lack of strategy made the morning there VERY stressful.

Our time for this upcoming trip only allows for half a day at HS. My husband and son would like to ride RoR but 4 year old will not; based on that and the kids’ love of Toy Story I’m hoping the below plan will work.

Your thoughts, oh vast DisBoard font of knowledge?

  • 7 am - DH books RoR for himself and my son for around 10am while I get a LL for TSMM as early as possible. After booking TSMM, I will immediately purchase MMRR for around 11 am.
  • 7:30 - leave Poly via rideshare to be into HS by 8 am
  • Arrive and mad dash to Slinky
  • Ride Slinky
  • Ride Aliens (assuming LL return for TSMM allows)
  • Tap into TSMM, see if LL available for Millennium Falcon. Keep refreshing and trying
  • Walk through Galaxy’s Edge to soak it all in and show DH and DS where RoR is
  • DH and DS ride RoR, DD and I go to Frozen Sing along
  • Meet up at Muppets 3D, view show
  • Ride MMRR using purchased LL
  • *if managed to get LL for Millennium Falcon, ride
  • *if can’t get LL for Falcon, do Star Tours
  • *after tap in time for second LL, get LL to meet Olaf

A few questions:
  • If we time our TSMM LL correctly, will we be off Slinky in time to do a walk on of TSMM and then ride again using our LL? The kids will love this and will probably want to do twice (we rode Buzz four times last family trip!)
  • Will we need to use LL at MMRR around 11 am? I hate to spend the money, but the kids will love it and if the line is more than 30 min DH and kids probably won’t want to try (and by that point they are getting hungry and beating break time)

Suggestions please!

I think you’re wasting your Genie Plus purchase if you buy it and then don’t use it on SDD. A lot of the value is in not having to join the SDD rope drop rush.

There’s no reason to make an early LL for TSMM and then ride it as soon as you get there. Instead make the LL for SDD as early as possible and rope drop TSMM. Will be much less stressful than trying to rope drop SDD with 2 little kids.

As for MMRR, I think it gets to 60 mins pretty quickly and pretty much stays around there all day so will be tough to ride that one standby without rope dropping.

Good grief how didn’t I think of that! Thank you - that will make things much easier.

Now I’ll start researching how to get SDD as early as possible - good Wi-Fi, a new phone, and a little bit of pixie dust 😬

Check out the theme park attractions and strategy forum. There’s a lot of good tips over there. The main thing is you want to have SDD pinned to the top of your tip board. Then constantly refresh the page in the seconds leading up to 7am so that immediately when it opens you can grab the earliest time. Every second counts!

Also practice makes perfect. Test out your plan by checking the app throughout the day. See what time the return times are for different attractions at different times throughout the day. A few days of doing this and you will know what to expect when the real day arrives. Good luck!
