HS Quick Service

I'm having a difficult time finding good reviews on Hollywood Studios quick service restaurants. I have multiple quick service restaurants I'd like to try at both Magic Kingdom and Epcot, but for our two days at Hollywood Studios I'm not sure where to go.

We had originally planned to go to Pizza Planet, but it will be closed while we are there.

I guess this also kind of begs the question: with the multiple closures at HS, is two days too many to spend there? We will be a group of 8 with 3 adults and 5 kids between the ages of 6-12. My MIL might also join us on one of our HS days too.

DHS doesn't have a lot of good food, I'm not even a fan of the TS restaurants there! Lol. However, I'll say these are my picks when Pizza Planet's down:
-ABC Commissary, they menu changes every so often, but they used to have a super awesome salmon quinoa salad. They have some better choices, and lots of places to sit, and the food is good.
-Starring Rolls has sandwiches, bagels and pastries. WHile I usually just go for snacks there, the sandwiches are super yummy, so it's my second choice for DHS!

Personally, I think 2 full days is WAY too much, especially with fast pass, but thats just me, and I don't really like DHS, so I don't spend a lot of time in there. Even in the year I lived there the most I was ever there was when friends were working and I was going to watch/visit them lol. A day at DHS would be something like this for me:
-Rope drop
-Straight to ToT and ride standby
-Check RnR line, ride standby or single rider depending
-Over to Launch Bay to meet Kylo & Chewie and explore a little bit
-Catch the Captain Phasma march thing and the stage "show"
-Head back over to BatB to catch the second show
-Watch Indiana Jones show
-Meet a couple characters if you want
-Watch fireworks & Fantasmic
-Use FP for Toy Story, Star Tours and 1 more thing!

We like ABC Commissary. We actually really like the burgers there. I've had a few other things be pretty good too. I've seen some people say the food was bad there, but we have never had anything we didn't like. We go there a couple times each trip.

We spent one day at HS (with a long break mid-day) and ended up using table service credits because I wanted my kids to do the Disney Jr. Hollywood and Vine meal (it wasn't that bad) and I wanted to experience 50s Prime. We ended up making an unexpected trip back on our last day in the evening because DD wanted to ride ToT again. We needed to use our last two QS credits and could not find anything. Our original plan was to eat at the new kiosks around Echo Lake (which all sound really good!) but none were open due to the rain I am assuming. if you can catch those kiosks while they are open they may be your best bet!

We ended up using a few snack credits at Writers's Stop to hold us over until we could get back to the resort.

DHS gets dumped on repeatedly for its horrid QS options. Often by the same people who praise Flame Tree BBQ at AK as being one of the best QS options in all of WDW. What seems to be overlooked is that Fairfax Fare has almost the same menu and the food quality is comparable. Now, I suppose that many of those people who have eaten at Flame Tree have no desire to eat BBQ on successive days in successive parks. So there is always that. But it would be odd to suggest that Flame Tree is "great" and at the same time declare that DHS has no good QS options.

And I agree that the ABC Commissary can be a good option. The menu changes more frequently than any other QS location in all of WDW, so you can never know what you are going to get for sure. But there have been times when they have had some really good and unusual choices. The (long-gone) Chicken Curry dish remains one of my all time favorite QS dishes. That said, I join the chorus of those who think that the burgers there are awful. Not sure why they are so different than the rest of WDW. But they are. And not in a good way.

I like Fairfax Fare as well and if it's still there we've always enjoyed Backlot Express. Another option is to mozy on over to Swan/Dolphin, BC or Boardwalk.

I had a really good caprese sandwich at Backlot Express in May. Something a little different and refreshing in the heat. I would also second the suggestion for Fairfax Fare.

Personally I think 2 days is way too long at DHS. We got there about 9:30 on our last, went off property for lunch at Beaches and Cream and still struggled to fill the day until time for fireworks.

I forget about Fairfax Fare, we've had it and their food is good too. We just tend to want to eat inside in the air conditioning so we often forget about that one.
