HS, AK Crowd Levels 9 or 10 for Marathon Weekend?

Touring plans sent an update on crowd levels for Jan. 10-13 with crowd levels jumping from a 3 at AK to a 9 and HS going from a 6 to a 9 or 10 Thursday-Sat next week. Does this align with past Marathon crowd levels?

I don't know what the crowd number was last year but we didn't feel that the marathon week was any less crowded than the weeks prior. We were there for all of Christmas and New Years weeks thru the marathon weekend.

TP increased crowd levels for much of my 1/14-1/28 trip. I suspect it may be because of the elevated wait times seen during January 2018.

Usually, the marathon weekend races sell out quickly, but that wasn’t the case this year. They either added a lot more entry slots or people just aren’t as interested in self-inflicted torture as they were in the past lol. Decreased interest in the races contradicts higher crowd levels so who knows what’s going on.

The last marathon weekend I did was a few years ago, but I don’t remember the parks being uncomfortably crowded.

TP admitted in their blog post about the updated levels that these are just predictions(as always) based on last year's numbers and other factors. So it could still be a 3-4 day there. WHo knows! But other crowd calendars already had that weekend rated much higher for months now, with AK as a "red" day even.

Do yourself a favor and ditch looking at the crowd calendars. They're snake oil. If it's busy, it's busy. There's absolutely no way to accurately predict it.

From a runner prospective:

DVC is completely full this week-some single night availability is open here and there, but nothing substantial.
Wake up calls for the races are in the 2-2:30 AM stage, only the hearty runners will be in a park past 6-7:00.
The last thing I want to do after running a half marathon is a coaster binge. If we hit a park, it's a leisurely stroll and a good meal. I'll be on the safari, y'all can do Everest.
Travel to and from the parks will be impacted, plan on more time.

In all honesty, we just pulled alien saucer, rock and roller coaster, and tower of terror fastpasses for Thursday a few days ago. If those are still available at good times, that's a sign the park may not be as full. Thursday weather looks chilly also, the Weather Channel moved the high back into the 50s.
