HR experts, regarding FMLA

Why would this thread need to be closed? If you don't want people to comment on your plans, maybe don't start threads about them? Since it took less than 24 hours to go from thinking about it to getting it approved, it isn't like you needed to check things out while waiting.

Not saying that you shouldn't post about it (post whatever you want, of course), but if you, you can't expect not to get comments on it.

I find it bizarre that any employer would grant FMLA for a short (less than a week) absence. Where I worked, FMLA was for something taking multiple weeks, if not months. And, since it's not paid, why not just take a few days off without pay....since that's what it is anyway? Shrug.

We can have FML time run concurrently with PTO. I have a few people who are approved for FML for ongoing issues with parents, children and themselves. I've always thought of it as being useful for those unplanned days where you have to deal with a medical issue. Some people schedule FML (individual) days and I've never understood why. It's coded as intermittent leave. The amount of paperwork involved is excessive. I can't imagine having my doctor fill it out for each small segment of time needed, as in OP's case.

I have a friend who works for a company where they will lose their job if they take time off sick and have no PTO. She has mentioned needing to complete FMLA paperwork for short term issues before.
