If the main reason we are going to Universal is for HP and we are staying onsite with EP, should we still make a beeline for the HP section of the park? Is it an obvious, easy walk back there? Thanks.

You should try take advantage of early admission. It will be an obvious walk as employees guide you.

You get express for all the Harry Potter rides, but it is much quieter during early admission.

It’s nice to sightsee and cast some spells (buy an interactive wand) when crowds are light.

I like to hit the HP areas first thing then go other things when it starts getting super crowded. You can come back late afternoon/early evening for reasonable crowds again.

I especially recommend trying to see Hogsmeade with less crowds and heat, so morning and evenings.
BUT with EPs, there's no need to push it too hard. Enjoy yourself. If you are excited and get there early, even better!

I wouldn't say it's an obvious walk back to Diagon Alley. You could miss it pretty easily. Both areas are at the very back of each park.
